My personal opinion is that .tv will only have it's major break through when technology brings together computer/laptop/mobile to TV and vice versa. This can happen by:
1. Interactive TV's being sold to major public (people check e-mail and surf internet on TV).
2. Devices being popular that will automatically make the connection from computer to TV, for example:
www.pczapper.tv, you can go on the internet on your TV with a remote control.
3. Mobile internet, I don't think .mobi will do it, .tv is shorter (on a small mobile phone this is a plus) so watching TV/internet on your mobile will also trigger .tv
This could happen within 5 to 10 years from now, but that's just a wild guess, it could be sooner
