Considering moving away from Godaddy as the high cost for privacy is a little too much for my liking. Are there any (reputable) domain registrars that offer domain + privacy for cheaper than GoDaddy?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
As alien51 noted above - that is my main concern.

Would like to hear from NameSilo on this. It would also be good to hear the number of domains currently with NameSilo - from the horses mouth.

I am certainly considering them. :)

Regarding transferring away from our service being a pain as @Sabre has said above, that is the first I've ever heard of that and would love some feedback as to what the problem(s) were. We are one of only a very few registrars that actually allows approving of outbound transfers so they can be completed within minutes as opposed to the typical 5-6 days. We also make unlocking domains simple and retrieving EPP auth codes are simply accomplished by one-click in the account area or by downloading a CSV of all domains via the domain manager.

No problem. For some reason, it took me about 4 attempts and a lot of resetting/fiddling to get GoDaddy to accept my transfer from NameSilo. (NameSilo -> GoDaddy)

The issue was that the emails were apparently not linking up, even though I fixed that on the end of NameSilo. It seemed to naturally resolve itself after a couple of weeks so I assume it just took a long time for the info to change on the end of NameSilo.

Annoying, but not something that would cause me not to go with a registrar as its not a situation I would find myself in if NameSilo was to become the stable home of my domains.

I'll try to answer all questions...

You can see the overall number of domains (as of July 2012) here:
http://www.registrarowl.com/NameSilo

We currently have over 65,000 registered with our company.

You can also note that we are the 3rd fastest growing registrar in the US:
http://www.registrarowl.com/report_...ltr_ctry=1&fltr_tld=&fltr_ctype=1&fltr_deco=0

Here is some information on how our pricing is so low:
http://www.namesilo.com/Support/How-our-pricing-can-be-so-low

Our renewal pricing is not quite the same as our transfer pricing. It is a bit more expensive.

Here is an interview one of our co-founders did at DomainSherpa.com that has a lot more information about us:
http://www.domainsherpa.com/michael-goldfarb-namesilo-interview/

We are a very stable registrar that is growing quickly and will be able to continue offering the lowest possible prices due to our business model. We provide very high levels of customer service, and I am confident you would find overwhelmingly positive reviews concerninig our company by looking around the web.

I do not want to violate any rules at NamePros by providing more information about us, just trying to answer specific questions that have been asked. We are also happy to answer any specific questions by emailing [email protected].

Hope this helps.

60,000 domains look like a lot of room indeed for growth. it's interesting though that the most hated Registrar at Namepros ( that would be 1&1 ) currently has more than 1 million domains regged with them. I have always wondered why something so hated has so many customers?

Anyway, back to Namesilo, I could try Namesilo 60 days from now, as i farmed out most of my domains just recently to Godaddy and Namecheap due to the Thanksgiving coupon deals.

I think I may register a few domains with yourselves and see how things go for a month or two. Then, if satisfied I will transfer the rest of my portfolio over.

I'll spend some time number crunching. Do you offer any bulk discounts on renewals?

Just to note: don't worry about this. We're asking questions and you are answering them, promptly and professionally.

Yes, there certainly is room for growth, but please also remember that we are fairly new, having only opened in 2010. Like all new businesses, it takes time to get your name out there and for growth to occur. Hopefully you would find that the experience of other's has been very positive (better to search around the web as opposed to hearing it from me), and that you will give us a shot.

Sounds great. I'm sure you will have a very good experience. We unfortunately very rarely provide renewal discounts. We largely only break even (and sometimes a little worse) on registrations and transfers, so renewals are the name of the game for us and where our profit is to be made. If you go here (http://www.registrarowl.com/report_registrar_price_comparison.php) and sort by renewal price, you will also find we are the 2nd cheapest available for everyday renewal price.

We do have coupons available directly at http://www.namesilo.com/Support/Coupons, and you will also find many $1 off coupons from our affiliates around the web.

Thanks for pointing this out. We understand it is a fine line, and we certainly don't want to do anything to violate rules of this forum.
