Apparently NP is distancing itself from .Tv

...half and half.

Yeah, I know the extension is really doing well, relatively speaking, compared to where it was, considering the influx of 4 and 5 figure sales that were quite rare a few cupla years ago.

Nah, the .commies aren't concerned about .tv's success, or at least they shouldn't be.

They should be more concerned about the new generations of endusers who do not see the cost-effectiveness of overpaying for a domain name because of what is at the right of the dot. The 21st century exposed these younger users to the cornucopia of different extensions that they are accustomed to seeing, unlike the elders who worshipped dot com at the altar as the monotheistic icon.

I guess the times are a changing for everything...

Exactly right, look out for my blog post on .tv tomorrow.

.com doesn't have anything to worry about with the increase in relevance of .tv, nor do any of the other TLDs that are already established.

But tomorrow (figuratively, I mean an indeterminate time) is another day, how many new ventures will refuse to shell out unrealistic prices for .com when there are 1000s of options available will be interesting to see.

IMO there are enough too many alternatives on the market today.
The problem is that most are not a viable choice.

There can be competition among secondary gTLDs but there is no competition when it comes to your own ccTLD. There has been a marked shift toward ccTLDs, but there has been no real shift toward vanity extensions.

Oh well we're going to have .paris .nyc .smallville but...

Honestly, rebranded TLDs like .tv have more to lose in the new 'paradigm' than .com.

The impact of new gTLDs will be felt most in one place - high Priced domains. The rest of the impacts will depend on the development of various platforms - right now we have two: The Internet and Facebook ;0)

All high priced domains, irrespective of extension, at least imho.

.COM will rule prices for a while though, just by dint of the amount of investment in developing websites on that extension.

Here is my post: Has .TV finally broken through the glass ceiling?

...Excellent article that encapsulates the growing trend of the .tv extension. Thanx, Samit!

Well i caught up with snoopy last night(melbourne/australia) at a domainers get together, he accepted the news with shock and dismay. I can still vividly recall him raising both hands to sky and screaming out 'WHY' as he fell to his knees !

He is also most impressed with Finster's migration to the darkside

Snoopy has promised to have his 'Finster's Gone Rogue' t-shirt printed in time our next domainers gathering

Gotta love .tv land

If you believe in a TLD agnostic future, now may be a good time to back up the truck. Strong SLD.whatevers are a dime a dozen. For example, while someone reportedly paid $65K for package.tv, you can hand reg package.ws. Buck Rogers doesn't know TLD from shinola. Just sit back and wait for years the 21st century generation to come knocking. Unless TLD matters.

yep, yer probably right, yet I reiterate:

They will not genuflect at the sight of the .com extension while ignoring other extensions that they grew up with and that's that. Yes, the "king" will be "king" but atrophy sets in and, like it or not ,time takes it toll towards parity.

FWIW: One of my .tv domains have picked up traffic in the last month or two, and it's just a redirect.

I'm not sure what this means long term, but I thought it was worth sharing.

freedom - The horse race ended a long time ago and dot com won. TLD price parity will happen only when government, technology or who knows what breaks the DNS or otherwise kills domain investing. When dot com falls it will go to zero and the house of cards goes with it. Until then stick with what works. I tip my hat to anyone who makes their nut in cornucopia TLDs.

equity - thanks for the package info, my mistake, that's what I get for wandering over here!

...OK. I appreciate that perspective, ecalc.

I guess that time alone will tell whether I or anyone else is more or less on the right path.I'm not all that much of a fortune teller but I have seen stranger things happen when the factor of time is involved.

At any rate I got more .com domain names than all of my other extensions, so for me it's all good either way.

No more appraisal section in dot TV subforum - bad move in my opinion.
In a times when subforum is rather dead than alive to cut it in peaces is not a best idea

...bad move and a seemingly stupid one, or at least not a professional move at any rate.

But it's not our forum and the owner can dismantle it and cut it in pieces anyway he wants, so we just have to grin and bear it and do the best we can with it...

If we really want an appraisal, 2M, we do know where we can go to get one for the .tv extension...

In my opinion moving .tv appraisals to normal appraisal section it's like to appraise guns on a fishing forum.
There are 2 biggest domain forums: DNF and NP. Among other stuff the difference was that here at NP there was a special place for .tv and at DNF there wasn't - and it was a big "plus" for NP and for people who were looking for the info/appraisals, to sell their .tv names.

There was a marketplace, there was an appraisal section, there was a subforum... And what would be?

Now there is no difference. At DNF there is also ccTLD's discussion sections and you could also appraise .tv in normal appraisal section - but would you get any opinion? Guess not. Ah, sorry - you will. Maybe some .com'er would spend 1 min of his life to say ".tv is a crap".

There was a big sense in .tv appraisal section cause here people who know what is .tv were hanging out.

Nick you can ask for them in the main .tv area.

...and here is where you are wrong regarding no difference with dnf and NP...WE GOT THE BEST MODERATOR FOR THE .TV FORUM IN RAY!...and dnf doesn't.

Viva la differance!...
