Just added number #245 to the list

I was playing around with creative ideas to get peoples attention yet remain cost effective a few months ago and have started seeing positive results from it, so i figured I would add it to the list.

245.) Buy some cheap business card stock and print on one side of it the following:

Pick me up and read me
You know you want to!
(Flip me over)

On side number two, print the following:

HA HA, Made you look!
(Now put me in your pocket in case you need my services later.)
Your logo goes here
your short marketing message goes here

Your website address goes here

Now every time you go out on the town, to eat, to a public restroom, etc., Leave one of these cards with side 1 facing up. Not only does it provoke curiosity, it actually goes viral as they show their friends the funny card they found today.

Just added number #246 to the list

Ok, so here's another one I was using and got call today for a quote from someone that found me via this method. I put my business card in the middle sections of all the free auto sales magazines in one of those free paper stands.

246.) Take a stack of your business cards or Flyers you had made up and visit a few of those FREE outdoor Magazine / paper stands (Preferably at an hour not many people are out and about). Take the whole stack out of the stand, insert your card/flyer about the middle section of each, re-stack, and put them back in the stand.

Not sure about this. If the newspaper found out you may get a story on your "business" practices - i.e. we have nothing to do with them.

In addition - any competition that found out that advertised legitimately will use it against you. If you are in advertising it might effectively end your business right there.

(Not likely but a risk)

I guess this is why he added "late at night".

Personally? I'd recommend against this one. You're better off putting cards in a legitimate location nearby.

Good points, and the more I think about it, the more I agree with you. this idea is a "Use at your own risk" and borders on ethics.

I don't know, I kind of like #246.

Also, don't be afraid to stick your material on those grocery store peg boards.

You would be AMAZED at how many people actually stop and read those things.

This list is surely very informative. However it is essential to consider the websites where the submissions are made. If you acquire backlinks from reputed websites, you will surely get more traffic.

One thing I would disagree with you about is #227. I think you should be upfront with your visitors about any contest prizes. There are way too many contests and giveaways (on Facebook pages, etc.), that reward visitors with iPads and the like, for any surfer to stick around and compete for a prize he might not like.

Otherwise, many of these tactics should keep any merchant/vendor wanting to make sales busy this holiday season...
