on topic to the thread - found out that one of the LLLL.com I recently sold on eBay wound up with an end user (a TM attorney no less, LOL!) .... I've decided to go for an end user sale or 2 this month myself ... Thinking about potential benefit of working with a good broker to help smooth the way.
Personally I make it as easy as possible for end users to find me rather than going out of my way to find them. These end users are the ones who pay $xx,xxx for names that you got for reg fee less than 12 months ago. It is simply too time consuming to personalise each domain.
There are several key things to remember when contacting
the end user. A couple is a well written domain sales script
that rolls off the tongue. The more complex you make your
pitch, the more you'll turn the potential buyer off.

One of the best things I've implemented is always including a sales
price in my email.
Only the lowest price you'd accept.
Or if you insist on taking offers - say "taking offers at $XXXX".
This weeds out the lowballers and qualifies your buyers.
Very true, but always park it at least. It's very professional imo
to offer a name for sale that leads your contact to a registrars page.
Development will only increase the value of your domain despite what
parkers may say.
There are end users who'll pay $XX,XXX for reg fee. Though $XX profits on $7 purchases aint bad either. Reg the right name, offer it to the qualified buyer.
Finding end users isn't the hard part, getting em to buy is.
Follow the traffic, advertisers, and booming industries and offer
them a domain that makes a statement.

This is a great thread. I have just finished reading it and picked up a few pointers.
So I will try and give a few in return. (I love smileys)
I have sold domains using afternic.com and sedo.com. I prefer sedo.com for several reasons.
1. Afternic has a minimum fee of $60.00 and charges 10% for higher priced domains. Sedo.com states a minimum fee of $50.00 but if you have the domain name parked with them they only charge a straight 10%. So it cost me less to sell through Sedo.
2. Afternic requires you to transfer the domain to the buyer and does not pay you until the buyer confirms the transfer. I have had buyers play games and not confirm the sale until a week or two after the transfer. Afternic wouldn't release the funds until the buyer confirmed the transfer, just kept telling me they were working to get the buyer to confirm the transfer. Sedo.com has you transfer the domain to their account, then they transfer it to the buyer. So the buyer can't play games about the transfer and I get paid faster. You get paid either way buy why wait a week or two to receive your money?
3. Sedo.com has an auction feature which you can use when you receive an offer that you would accept but consider low. I sold one domain last week at auction for $290 where the initial buyer stated the top price was $150.00. I had offered to accept $220.00 from him but ended up receiving an additional $70 as a result of the auction.
4. Finally I have found I received better revenue from sedo.com than afternic.com for parked pages.
eBay--I have never been able to sell a domain name using eBay but have bought several. I find that eBay buyers want to steal the domain, not buy it. Since I buy there from time to time I must include myself in that category.
Finally in all my domain records instead of organization I state "This domain is listed for sale at sedo.com"
This tells anybody interested enough in the domain to check Whois that the domain is for sale.
I prefer to sell using sedo.com or afternic.com instead of handling the sale myself. I'm willing to pay the fee instead of having the headaches of dealing with a flaky buyer or the risk of the buyer being a scammer.

I've done only two sales in the past to end-users. In both cases I've contacted the end-users and was sent the money right into my PayPal account no questions asked. My question is, how do I bring the subject of "money tranfer first" to an end-user? I currenty dealing with the end-user company that assumes that the domain I am selling will be transfered to them first and they will pay afterwards. Has anyone else had the same problem bringing up this subject to an end-user? Any help will be much appreciated.
You should mention that you understand there is a need for a risk free domain ownership transfer that ensures a safe transaction of the domain and associated funds, by making use of a Escrow service such as Escrow.com or Moniker.com, Sedo.com who all offers a reliable and safe way to ensure you as the seller and the buyer are protected in the process and everything is handled correctly.
You want to use an escrow service such as one by Moniker or Sedo or multiple others. It might cost a couple of percentage points, but ensures a win-win outcome for both parties. I conducted a domain sale for $xx,xxx back in 2000. The buyer had a legitimate attorney involved who conducted the escrow function.
If it is a low dollar sale - less than $1,000, then my first inclination is to ask for the payment up front, then to transfer the domain. NEVER release your domain before getting payment. Then, you might want to declare a 7 day waiting period for the payment to be validated. Even cashiers checks can be forged these days. And, I believe that wire transfers can be voided/reversed if the funder does not actually have the money. So, it might look like your account has received the expected money, but then 48 hours later the deposit has simply disappeared.
Be careful with anyone who tries to rush you in a transaction. All the best!

Are you worried about hitting that one guy who takes legal action?
Sending out a single email to a company or person you intend to personally communicate with one-on-one is not necessarily spam, as long as you thoroughly identify yourself and provide a way to contact you directly (phone, postal mail, personal name, direct email).
