I have the great pleasure to announce that T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is getting one of the Legends of America to come and speak to us. Not since Steve Forbes have we had someone of such esteem. While Steve is a billionaire he was born into money in a way few have. But earned his wings when he could have been a goof off like me.

Now we have a self made man quite like no other. That proves that ANYTHING is possible in America. Living proof. Perhaps the greatest promoter since PT Barnum himself.

I am here to announce that DON KING is coming to TRAFFIC. If some of you don’t know who Don King is, you have some homework to do.

Steve Forbes was a big speaker but I don't see how Don King is relevant at all to domainers.

I'm asking myself the same thing. It's about as silly as Richard Simmons talking about the female anatomy.

Steve Forbes was a big speaker but I don't see how Don King is relevant at all to domainers.

I don't see what this has to do with domains at all. I can think of a laundry list of speakers I'd rather listen to than Don King (Frank Schilling, Scott Day, Howard Neu, Chef Patrick, Ron Jackson, Francois from Domaining.com, and it goes on).

Don King has a shady past, is accused of corruption, and hasn't been relevant since 1987. Is this really the best that Rick Schwartz could come up with?

It's practically an insult to the intelligence of the TRAFFIC audience.

Rick sure seemed excited about it lol Does King even know what a domain is?

Is this really the best that Rick Schwartz could come up with?

Just another case of pandering solely to male domainers and then complaining that not enough women attend these circle jerk conferences.

Well, duh.

Rick seems like an arrogant asshole. He isn't as good at selling as he tries to make us think. But he's the so-called "king of domains" and we're supposed to treat his every word like it was golden.

*scoffs*

Simply amazes me that a cut throat scam artist like don king would be promoted and touted by the industry leaders for coming to TRAFFIC...what a joke in my book glad I never go to these "Stroke my ego and make myself look important dog and pony shows"

Simply amazing...Perhaps this will be the scene come the next conference:

Rick announces Don King has given Halvarez ring side tickets!!

Sad state of affairs honestly.....

Can you sense my dislike of Mr.King I'm a huge boxing fan and hate the man with a passion.

Rant Over ---/

I don't see how Don King is relevant at all to domainers.

Because .....

"Don King" is just a few letters short of being "Domain King"

Ya think???

"Legendary"? More like universally despised.

Isn't he a convicted felon? Not a good choice, imho. I wasn't going to attend TRAFFIC anyway, but I sure wouldn't go with him as a keynote speaker.

I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't want this asshole telling us about business lol It's not like he understands legit business, himself.

Shame on Rick for boasting about this loser.

He kicked and stomped an employee to death. I mean, that could happen to anyone, right?

I (literally) ran into him once, and he is a very engaging personality. But what's the message here?

On Rick's site, some domainers have suggested that any publicity is good publicity for domaining. So, what? They couldn't get Charles Manson paroled for a day? I mean, domainers already have publicity, and it's already bad. How will inviting King help that?

Others say that he has accomplished a lot, and we have a lot to learn from him. But so have a lot of other people who also have things they can teach us, and they are not associated with the activities that King is.

The point is not to disparage King. The point is that domaining still acts less like an industry and more like a boy's club, cigars and busty girls all around (amazing how many swimsuit models are attending the upcoming TRAFFIC. I had no idea swimsuit models were such serious domainers).

People go on about how they want domains to become accepted as assets, and domainers as serious investors rather than lazy squatters - but look at the conventions!

Can anyone name any other business, outside of porn and some entertainment fields, that presents this sort of image?

Domains are finance and marketing related, and it would be nice to see some attempt at that image being made.

Not to be a pitchman, but this is one reason I have such hopes for Epik conferences, which are more about domaining as a business.

I just don't get the attitude of these conferences. Don't they have enough fun in their personal lives? They have to bring it onto their business, at the expense of the business?

So, yeah, swimsuit models and Don King are not great ways to build a domaining industry... in my opinion.

WTF is this? 1984? Is Don Johnson coming too? I'm new to domaining but these 'conferences' seem a bit silly. Cabanas, models, washed up criminals...are there speedboat races?

Well, I hope my domains sell there anyway. Maybe Don King will buy one.

I could not agree more. Such behavior gives this industry a bad name and a black eye.

This industry will not become mainstream until the boys grow up and develop conferences that include women as equal partners and not objects.

All we have right now is partying, GoDaddy Girls & Don King. Domaining isn't destined to be doomed. It's idiots like the ones making these events whop make the business look shoddy.

Many STILL believe domains, website and domaining is about US only, you are going to get many surprises in the near future if you don't look behind your back.
On topic now I cant understand whats domaining has to do with Don King, I lately see less and less interest about pure domaining in T.R.A.F.F.I.C. too.

Their closed circle is turning into a circus and thats a pleasure to watch.

Many of you out there STILL believe domains, website and domaining is about US only, you are going to get many surprises in the near future if you don't look behind your back.

You're absolutely right; domaining and websites and internet buzz is not just about the US BUT...it's America that made things happen right from the start...from Business.com sale to MS to Netscape to Yahoo to Google to dMoz (AOL project). Besides, if you look at the numbers, you'll realize and Americans are by far way ahead than anyone else when it comes to purchase; something that keeps the industry rolling!

On a side note: And I do know there are Chinese, Russians, Europeans that do domaining too and in all honesty, I am very good friends with some of them.

alistair80 its not a regional thing for me its just that US domainers are afraid to open their market for obvious or not reasons that way their circle is very tight.

That's actually more relevant.

Don King has a shady past, is accused of corruption...

Oh now I see the connection.

lol for anyone who watches this...

Gosh, I hope someone videotapes the speech he gives. Would be great for a laugh.

That kind of crap has been spewed for years now. Domains aren't about US but they are about CNO and the US market is one of the most lucrative. I'm not sure how your statement has anything to do with this thread though. We're making fun of Don King, Traffic, and Schwartz.
