![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have finally requested that my account with magma host be shut down. I have gone with a more reputable hosting company. Seems that the new owners of magmahost cannot even respond to my support tickets, other than to say that "I have not responded"???!!! They cannot even tell me if I can get access to my files or not, nor will they respond to my request for a refund! I would also like to add that this is TWICE that the original owners have sold a company and had it go to complete crap! If you do a bit of digging you will find out what I mean. I have learned my lesson.......

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-hosting-discussion/634465-magmahost-acquired-by-yomura-holdings.html It's a cycle, you get a new company on the block that is "hot" with the right deal and responsive sales/support. A little time plays out, and the persons involve generally get bored or move on for various reasons and then a thread like this springs up. It's really amazing how much a little time and perhaps money can save on all of the moving.

Well, one of my gaming sites is hosted with MagmaHost, it went down for two days in the month of Aug, i mailed them, didnt receive a reply, but all of a sudden the site was up. now since last monday, my site is down again. i have sent them 7-8 mails, opened 3-4 support tickets, tried calling the no given on the website +44-20 3287 6060, but no reply. the tel no given on the site has been allotted to someone else, and he said he is really pissed with so many calls related to magmahost. he also told me that this no is with him since jan2010. I am really in a fix, as i had recently purchased this site and was working hard in making it content rich, i was planning to take the backup. but somehow i didnt... Just now i have sent a mail to the address given by you. lets hope i receive a reply

![]() ![]() | Adi I think that would be a lesson to to you. Backups is something personal and you are the one who should take care of that.

![]() | Magmahost seems to be a good lesson to us all. There are some lessons as to the types of background checks that should be made if you want to enter into a long term contract with an internet company, and also what action you should take. Luckily I only signed up to 12 months development hosting in December 2009, and I decided to move host in about April 2010 for my sellmyretro.com auction site, retaining magmahost hosting for just a test site. The test site (sellmyretro.co.cc) was down for 5-6 days in August and has been down since 15th September 2010. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=634465 a) They no longer respond to emails or support tickets. I have therefore written a letter to both the address on their website and their registered office address. b) They are still a UK registered limited company (Magmahost Limited) and their website and invoices breach the terms of the Companies Act 2006, by not providing their registered company number and registered office address. Companies House, who have written to their registered office and not received a response, so have now (I understand) written to the directors' home address. Interestingly, the UK company was supposedly only registered on 16th January 2010, although they were issuing invoices under that name in at least December 2009. c) I have notified Trading Standards in London, PayPal, 2Checkout.com, Moneybookers and econsumer.gov - Your site for cross-border complaints. as they still appear to be accepting payment, despite the fact that they do not appear to be providing any service (and are no longer contactable). d) I am signed up with Google webmaster tools and reported the site as spam (does not respond to contact / telephone number is not theirs) - using https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...amreport?hl=en e) I have reported the issue with Norton 360 as an unsafe site with a short review to say why I can't really think of much else to do - see if you can raise a paypal dispute (depends how long ago you made a payment) - it is not worth going to the small claims court for me, as the total paid was only around £50. ---------- Post added at 01:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ---------- Interesting that if you now try and make a payment for webhosting to magmahost.com, you are provided with a paypal link to pay accounts@hataraki.com Luckily PayPal don't allow payment to that merchant either! I have sent an email to that address to ask how they are linked to magmahost, so we shall see... |

![]() | thanks a lot, I had already moved all my bigger sites to justhost & hostgator, but had a few small ones which were not doing much. If they can atleast give us the backup of the sites that will really help, can we ask Mh Andy member here connected with magmahost.com to please come to this thread and help us to get the backup files or the right contact details. Thanks

![]() | Somehow I doubt MH Andy will respond - he has not posted since January when magmahost was taken over - my guess is that all of the UK staff were made redundant. I have just spotted something else that is interesting with magmahost - if you read the terms and conditions, they claim that disputes would be settled under the Laws of the State of Texas. As they are a UK company trading in the UK, then it would be the laws of England and Wales which apply, not US laws! This should maybe teach us all to pay closer attention to the terms and conditions. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sad to hear some people in this thread were having issues and lost their sites!! This is horrible and exactly why you need to be careful with which web hosting company you choose. Also, as someone else previously stated - it's important to do backups yourself and download them onto your PC on a regular basis. Just to be on the safe side you should ALWAYS do this no matter who your host is. In cPanel it's very simple and easy..you can even back it up remotely to another hosting account.. |

I think that backup should be issued regularly to avoid such troubles.

![]() | I hope everyone has managed to move OK to a better host and put this behind them. Interestingly, I have today received a number of emails from magmahost all dated 1 month ago - so maybe there is some activity out there. Their website is now down completely -let's hope it stays that way. I wonder how many other webhosts are owned by Yomura Holdings, so that they can also be avoided! |
