Ok, I had used 49% of my bandwidth for the month of May but then someone thought it would be funny if they took a selection of my larger graphics from my site and placed it on there page about a hundrand times, All diffrent urls using the random number/letter function - like yoursite.com/graphic.png?sh56u2 .
Now I have used 298% of my bandwidth and I can't get in contact with Tom (sabre hosting) to sort it out because my msn won't connect, for that matter both the computers at school and at home keep on getting time out errors.
My area must be busted! Ohh yea, Telewest are making my internet faster...... Slower more like!! </rant>

Make a .htaccess file, and add something like this: :)

Code:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://babelfish.altavista.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://babelfish.altavista.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*yourdomain.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*yourdomain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*google.([^/]+)$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*google.([^/]+)/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://555.555.555.555/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://555.555.555.555$ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp|swf)$ http://www.yourdomain.com/no.jpe [R,NC]

Make a no.jpg image file with the image you want to be displayed if/when they hotlink..
use your imagination, but it's not always a good idea to display a "full moon" there.. ;)
Rename no.jpg to no.jpe and upload it to the root of your server.

You can add other sites there as well if you're using your images on other sites..
Example for Namepros:
Code:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*namepros.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*namepros.com/.*$ [NC]

Replace the 555.555.etc with the IP of your dedicated server.
Don't need those two lines if you're using shared hosting.

You can also add other file extensions to the jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp|swf line if you need that.

Upload the .htaccess file to the root of your server.

This should work (haven't tested all of it yet).. :)

If you use mod_rewrite in .htaccess you wouldnt. Just find a nast image on line and redirect all calls to it hehe :P
