I think Google is too late to the game. People already have their Facebook profiles and their Twitter accounts; they'll probably be hesitant to make yet another identity for Google Wave.

Google ain't late... they were like 4 years late with their SE, then yahoo and msn. Look where they are now. As long as they keep upgrading and make it compatible with other devices, I think they'll get to the top again with their gadgets.

people use it in different ways. I use it for marketing and keeping an extended community for those following one of my more popular gaming sites. However, I find myself using it the right way all the time. The thing I like most is the trending topics, but I try to keep myself away from being a "REAL" user, and it's temping not to act like one.

Keep in mind that the real paradigm shift that Twitter has presented is... real-time. G has realized this.

Case in point, last Sunday night during the MTV awards, there was zero coverage on Google, because G doesn't index content in real-time.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/586601-google-wave-a-twitter-killer.html

Twitter, by nature, is real-time (i.e. a deterministic temporal publishing environment) and that is why there were a few thousand information updates per minute from people sharing information (and opinion, marketing, etc) from that particular event.... Kanye, Beyonce, what have you.

G learned from their old days where there was the "Google Dance" every few weeks or months.

So, I'm not sure that gWave is a Twitter killer... I doubt it. I think that Facebook is a far more likely challenger to Twitter, if they can continue to leverage their still decent growth. Facebook still has only 300 million members, but it's the growth rate of about 5M new members per week which is very interesting.

If FB can continue to leverage their data mining of personal information and exploit (monetize, lol) it to the max, then tie it in to a real-time model like Twitter.... it should be interesting.
