Seems like they give preference to results only from top sites. If bing becomes a hit, minisite revenues would go down. Only visitors left would be the ones who directly type-in the site name :-(

From bbc news article on bing ...
"Microsoft is forming partnership with a host of different online services which Bing can then trawl to aggregate specific information around searches - such as flight deals, reviews and holidays."

It's not like they couldn't afford a better name...baffles me why they went with bing
What would be better - "Booya"?

"Bing" srikes me as a pretty decent name. Short and with a definite "ah ha" quality. Not only easy to remember but something that almost already knows. A name that will "stick in the craw" and could easily come to be associated with search much the same way Google's has.

Of course it wont stick long if the SE is crap. And no one will know its crap unless they can be delivered to it. That will take mnore than any catchy name. But its a start.

###

I predict that soon an "AI" will come along, something not really owned or even ownable by any one, and will really throw some s*** in the SE game. Into every game for that matter.

Personally, I'm betting against them being "the next google", though, unless they can offer functionality that is so amazingly good, it will draw people away. G usage has entered that golden realm of no longer being a service where one is conscious of it's use, but a thoughtless reflex where one uses it as a matter of instinct, like breathing or eating at McDonalds (<-- for a lot of people, anyway).

Any search engine will have a darn hard time supplanting G's position, as whatever evolution in functionality that might cause users to make the jump is already being tackled and implemented by G. There's a reason why "being first" counts for so much. G was the first search engine service to "get it" and they've continued "getting it" ever since.
#so true! Bing has got a long way to go before it can rivial Google!

It's bundled when you buy a windows PC and many users have never bothered trying something else.

Well, I have now officially changed my startup page from Google to Bing.

Not because Bing is better then Google, but I dont like that Google search has become this big, so they almost have monopoly on the internet.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=585614

We all talk about how big Google is and how much depended we as a domainers are of Google. But we the majority of us use them as our primary search site. Well if we want the dependency to change, you have to start with yourself. So as of today, I no longer will use Google for my internet searches. Now its out there.

I don't like Bing as a SE. For example, it gives me only geotargeted search results that do not usually go well with I want to see. So speaking about now, I do not see Bing approaching even far the quality of search results G. delivers. I even like Y. more than Bing, sorry.

When talking about the MASTERS and the Leading Search Engine
Google is at the top of the list.
It does't mean that Google had so many failures in Search Engine launching but
i do hope so that Bing would be the last.
Why is it called as Bing?

Bing[dot]com can't overpass google, everyone knows that. That doesn't mean no one will use it. Bing will be a major search engine though, same as yahoo, msn, live. People will start using it to promote their website and get their rankings up.

The name bing, I think, can be concidered as a sound of a result found.

I think the future of search is to get your answer to a query on the search site, without linking to other sites.

They'll be pulling content such as RSS feeds and linking to checkout pages for Shopping related queries, but I think most queries should be answered on the actual search engine.

I think Bing does maybe 1% of that. So we are far away.

I'm quite curious about this one. Would it really surpass Google? I've just heard about it and I still haven't read any great thing about it. I hope someone could elaborate more on its features.

Yeah would be interesting. A Microsoft Bing parking feed would have better international coverage than Yahoo. It would also have higher CPCs than Yahoo (initially).

Although, overall coverage I think would be worse in the markets that Yahoo does have coverage for.

But nothing touches Google.

I think its good and hope bing.com does well, but I havent used it much yet. I think everyone wants google to have tough competition so no one dominates. If a search engine is web owner friendly they would do well with web site owners promoting it.

Wow, Bing.com is being advertised on many different ad networks. I've stumbled across Bing ads on many sites that I frequently visit. It doesn't surprise me that they're getting all these searches. When you click the Bing ad it automatically searches a certain keyword for you. I guess Microsoft has to keep their search count up.

Bing vs Google

Bing???

1. easier to remember

2. easier to pronounce than google

3. not easy to misspell like google

But i dont think they can beat Google

Child Abuse Child Abuse
Bing is a winner imho. If it can overcome the giant lead that Google has I don't see why it can't be a good search engine. The name is fine imho. The site layout is great. The results appear relevant.

It's not that Bing sucks at all...it's the question of overcoming the stigma that it's an MS product. If it's search and it ain't Google people tend to dismiss it. That's a real problem. The internet needs more than one significant search engine. The monopoly that G holds for search is just as bad as the one MS hold for OS's.

BING has just entered into the arena where GOOGLE is dominating. For the most part, it is pretty to look at with the diferent pics you get to see. I tried it out with some branded words and it does decent. The bubble message on the side can be approved upon.

The beauty of GOOGLE is its simplicty and straight-forward approach. Plus, it's in people's mind ex: Just Google it.
