I would like to know if the price you set for the name effects
your domains rotation frequency. Meaning is GD screaning the
asking prices and filtering the ones they feel are unreasonable.

Setting the commission rate higher will increase the following:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/581713-i-have-increased-godaddys-premium-listing.html

1) The frequency your domain is rotated into search results

2) Broader scope of relativity to keywords searched and your
domain name.
(search for "dog" will include "doggie, hound, dog bone")

3) The amount of commission Godaddy gets from the sale
of your name.

IT DOES NOT mean you (the domain owner) get an increase in
commission for any revenues or sales. Godaddy gets the increase
in commissions. Your name gets more exposure.

For every listing, godaddy gives you an appraisal value of your domain name and price you should consider... otherwise, price has no effect on rotation frequency.

When I asked Godaddy what I got for the extra commission rate, this is their initial answer:

"Due to its complex nature, your issue has been relayed to our Advanced Technical Support Team. Our most skilled technicians will be working to resolve your issue quickly and completely. You will be notified promptly upon resolution."

I look forward to hearing what their most skilled technicians come up with

Child Abuse
I wonder how many words they will need to make "sucker!" sound like a valuable upgrade.

I mean, they can't easily tell you how doubling your fee will benefit you? Maybe it's like getting people to put super-premium gas in their cars...some people will just pay more on the assumption that they'll get something for their money.

After all, it costs Godaddy nothing add the option - one that can potentially double their profits for zero effort.

This is not to disparage this thread. It's very interesting, and I've started trying it myself.

I've done plenty well at the 32% commission rate. One listing sold in April (a few days after listing 200 of my domains), one in May, and one just a few days ago. It's just so easy for users click 'Purchase' next to "XYZ.com is AVAILABLE! (As a Premium domain name)" when they search XYZ.com because the message is prominent and displayed at eye-level. Users RARELY nudge their eyes below the strip mall line to peer at the premium-listed alternatives to the domain they typed in.

Users who fall for the 62% commission offering should read up on shelf stocking fees.

Godaddy have finally responded, as follows:

"The larger the commission offered, the more visibility your domain receives on our Web site when customers search for a domain. For example when someone searches for a keyword in your domain it will be displayed higher in the search results under the premium domains tab. Unfortunately, I do not have data that will tell you the exact level of visibility for a specific commission rate. "

Maybe I just got lucky but Godaddy just sent me an email telling me I had sold another Premium Listed name for which I had increased the commission rate to 50%.

Put the asking price right at the top end of the range suggested by Godaddy and have got a $2288 sale.

Even with a 50% commission rate, not too bad for a $57 buy on 20 Feb (sticks with my goal of getting 20x purchase price!)

It sounds to me me like godaddy are doing all the hard work if they are actively promoting a name. If a domainer got 70% commisson from a parking co would that be considered obscene?

It's not the domainer getting 62% -- at their max commission, it's Godaddy getting 62% (the domainer getting 38%). Honestly, I think anything over 50-50 is a bit much. Thankfully they do let you sell at lower commission levels.

Did GoDaddy get rid of the $4.99 a month fee to list the domains as premium?
I just listed some, and the cart said $0.00, so I wasn't charged for anything.
Maybe it's just a special going on?

I have over 200 names listed as premium and I have not paid a penny for the listings - I would not be interested if there was a monthly charge considering what commission I am paying Godaddy when they do sell a name.

I see where to list for free AND I see where you can list "premium" for the home page etc but where is it where you can decide on the commison rate? Am I missing something here?

If anyone can point to a link where to start so I may check it out....

Thanks, I was going by a 2008 article which mentioned it cost $4.99 a month to list your domains as premium there. I guess they got rid of that, most likely do to the amount of commission they are taking.

The godaddy appraisal in my opinion is over exaggerated.
They give you a range of what it might be worth, from a low end to a high end,
as well as a recommended price (the median of the range).

On some of my domains the range seems too high to me, but we'll see.
I decided to just list mine at the recommended price, but will reduce

each month until they're sold.

---------- Post added at 08:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ----------

I just noticed that godaddy has changed their interface a bit, now when you search for a domain it doesn't show you the similar premium domains, you have to click the button "Premium Domains" for it to list them. It's the same way on some resellers that I've checked out. Argh..I'm guessing this will hurt premium sales.

Interesting sale as this domain myFitnessStore sounded familiar. I let the .com/.net drop in December 2008. It was one of those newbie regs not high quality but just goes to show how you can sell even so-so quality domains with enough marketing. Congrats on the sale. I still have plenty of fitness-related domains including six exercise-related .TV websites (one in Spanish).
