They just declare a state of emergency to get federal funds to stockpile on medicines in case they need it.

I'm going to go make out with pigs tomorrow just to prove my point that I am not afraid of the swine flu.

Go out, wash your hands, and you'll be fine.

Figures don't lie, Galel cited what needs to be known. I see a lot of conspiracy theories on this one; 200 people die from a virus and suddenly governments are experimenting on people again...

Here in México City I know of two cases, one died, other was sent home and remain under treatment, none confirmed that virus was the trigger to their respiratory illness.

Recommendation:

Avoid direct contact with people you don´t know how effective are their health habits.

Wash your hands frequently. Eat well, sleep well. Keep your inmunologic system well.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849

The virus is already there like the one of regular flu.

Child Abuse
Well, if you're scared of the flu...take a look at doctors:

According to Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, 250,000 deaths per year are caused by medical errors, making this the third-largest cause of death in the U.S., following heart disease and cancer.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849

Doctors kill 7 or 8 times more people than all influenzas together. And that's in arguably the most advanced medical care system in the world.

Just out for a walk, or taking a shower?

Slip and fall accidents cause 16,000 deaths each year

Danger lurks all around us!

Some people claim that there is 100% chance of death for all of us. But, I think they're pessimists

Child Abuse
Wendy..I hear you. I've got two girls here, but if I worried about all the dangers out there to no end, I would have to locked up from the stress.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849

One thing about Japan. I used to think they were obsessive about washing hands several times a day - and also about never, ever touching the handrail on an escalator or stairway. But, now I pretty well agree those are good habits to have.

So far as masks, I doubt they do a lot to prevent catching a virus, but they are great for stopping a cough from spreading so far. It's bad manners here to not wear a mask when you are coughing a lot.

About your daughter's trip to Mexico....I imagine the most dangerous part of it would be on the flight - all those people in an enclosed space and no fresh air. All things being equal, I wouldn't want my loved ones going to Mexico just now. I'd go myself, but that's just me...

I don't mean to slam anyone who worries about this. It's hard not to when it gets played like it is. But I worry about how easily the media can whip up fear. It's a bit scary.

Wendy, when I took my wife up to where you are, she was more terrified of the bears than anything else (well, maybe my driving). We're never scared by the stuff we are familiar with.

On the silver lining side of things, I suppose pork will be pretty cheap for a while

See what I mean? Sounds scary.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849
But, stop a minute to define level 5 - without going online to research it. 99.9% of us can't. But it sounds scary.

Step 2: Without researching, tell me what a pandemic is as defined by the WHO. But, even without knowing that, it sounds just awful.

I'll save you a bit of research and provide the definitions here:

Phase 5: Still not a pandemic, but spread of disease between humans is occurring in more than one country of one WHO region.

Got that? More than one country in one region...that's all. Less scary now, at least to me.

Phase 6: This is the pandemic level. Community-level outbreaks are in at least one additional country in a different WHO region from phase 5. A global pandemic is under way.

"Global pandemic" or "community level outbreaks in at least one additional country in another region from the original outbreak." The first words sound scarier - and those will be the words the media chooses. Much more exciting and fear-inducing than "community level outbreaks."

Meanwhile the North Koreans are threatening ICBM and nuclear tests if they don't get a little love from the UN. Now that's scary.

Its BIO Terrorism. They went on to say, that Secret Governments want to destroy 80% of the worlds population!

Making out
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849
.
In human sexuality, making out is a sexual euphemism[1] of American origin dating back to at least 1949, and is used synonymously with the terms "necking" and "petting".[2] Making out covers a wide range of sexual behaviors,[3] and means different things to different age groups in different parts of the U.S.[1] It typically involves kissing,[4] including prolonged, passionate kissing (also known as French kissing), intimate contact, including heavy petting, that is, skin-to-skin contact,[1] or other forms of foreplay.[5] Making out is usually considered an expression of affection or sexual attraction to a current or prospective sexual partner. An episode of making out is frequently referred to as a make-out session or a make-out sesh depending on the speaker's vernacular.
