| Nice article. However the pricing you have on dedicated servers is way off.
Myself I own my own servers. I also build them. A typical webserver to buy will cost you around $1500.00 up to $2500.00. The servers that run in the range of $15,000.00 are typically servers for large webhosts called arrays. These have more resources built into them than a typical webserver.
The costs for housing a typical webserver is $25.00 to $50.00 per U per month. Most webservers are 1 to 2 U's in height.
After that you have bandwidth costs. Typically you would have to commit to a minimum of 1mbps this is typically 325 gb's per month. The bandwidth costs varie from as low as $13.00 a month up to $100.00 a month per mbps. With the average price for decent reliable bandwidth at $45 to $50 a month per mbps.
There is also server rentals and the typical price for this is anywhere from $100 to $250 a month depending on the size of the server.
Now everyone talks about big and fast servers. These are great. And keeping up to date is always a good thing. But say for example you run a website that gets a lot of hits. And say your website has no dynamic coding in it. And old school html site coded the right way with large bandwidth you could buy and old server off ebay and refurbish it. Then your cost to buy a server can be in the low $100's.
There are many many variables to hosting. It's all matching the right host up with the right prices and service to fit your needs. I hear people all the time claim all webhosts are the same. This is not true. That would be like saying all websites are the same.
Finding the right host to fits your needs can be a daunting task sometimes. It's like trying to find the right car. When you find a host that fits your needs stick with them. Just because the guy down the street is $2 cheaper a month he may not have what you require. |
