I too am confused... I see many great generic names already taken according to godaddy.com who has their own .co page setup. I also see that alot of them are already parked at SEDO. Does not seem like anything remotely is left.

Save The Children

Godaddy and .CO Fraud

When checking Godaddy's Priority Pre-Registration (Landrush) for a name they show it's AVAILABLE and for just $299.99 year.

Quote:
Choose if: You want a better chance of securing your popular domain before General Availability opens. Get in line first and beat the crowd!
Details: If we are not able to secure your name, your purchase will be refunded, less the $10.00 application fee included in the price above. Any domains with multiple valid applications will result in an auction.
...and when checking Standard Pre-Registration (General Availability)
for Just $29.99/yr the name shows NOT AVAILABLE!

Quote:
Choose if: You want to get your name in at the top of the list. After July 20, all names will be first come, first served, so boost your chances now!
Details: If we are not able to secure your name, you will receive a full refund.
I smell a big fat Godaddy fish. Looks like they are going to take your money knowing full well that the name is not available. They get full use of your money until July and then refund your money but keep $10.00

obama.co

Don't pre-register any domain or waste your money in landrush period because if you go to .CO Registro | Whois and type any domain like business, video, game, fun, etc. They all are registered in Feb/March 2010 and no good keyword is left so better stay away from .co

I typed in a bunch of words that haven't been taken.

But July 20 is pretty far away... i'll be surprised if they're still available by then.

Lots of premium and all the superpremium domains have been grabbed in February by colombian registrants.

Why don't we jointly notify this shame to Icann?

Those you're talking about could register their domain names during the local sunrise, which was the first stage of the .co launch and started on April 1st. In fact, nobody should have been able to reg any .co before that date.

Recent landrushes have been run in a similar way, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm sorry, but I still don't get your point. If a registry says that nobody (even local TM holders) can register any domain name in a certain tld before a certain date (april 1st in this case), what's the reason why a lot of domains were registered a couple of months before that date?

Colombian TM holders had the chance to get their domains during local sunrise, which occurred from April 1st to 26th and was reserved to them only. Futhermore, TM holders were allowed to register only domains perfectly matching their TM's. And I hardly think in Colombia there are perfectly matching TM's for all the superpremium english keywords and most of the premium ones.

Perhaps you could give one example but bear in mind that many domains were created in the registry before they were allocated.
Right now there are many reserved domains in the whois DB that are inactive.

Here's the list of domains reserved by the registry, which doesn't include the premium english keywords I'm talking about.

I absolutely agree. A lot of super premium .co names are already listed at sedo. How is that possible? most of the good 2-3 letter words are taken!
Thats a big scam. Take a look at sexo.co sex.co and others

And the prices are very high too

Trademark and big business owners were able to register their domains earlier. It's no scam, it's just how they decided to do it.

The people handling the .co extension want .co to be used by legit, honest businesses so it makes sense them letting trademark owners or large businesses register their domains first, that way scammer, spammers, etc will have a hard time getting good .co domains.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=573976

And if a spammer/scammer should use a .co domain then action will be taken against them (most likely they'll loose the domain).

If they manage to pull this off then I think .co will be very valuable. I've pre-registered a couple of domains, I doubt I'll get all but I decided to give it a shot as GoDaddy gives you a refund if you don't get your domain.

I'm confused. Why is everyone talking about GoDaddy and $299 per pre-order? I just got an email from EasySpace offering to pre-order .co for about £30.

I had a look and nearly all the good generics are already gone apparently. But I did find a couple that I liked so I pre-ordered them. It's just a punt really as I'd thought that .info and .biz would never go anywhere, and they did (sort of). I think it might be the same with .co It's a gamble and we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

There's different priority registrations. I pre-regged mine for the $30 option, but my pre-order does have a lower priority.
