Usually they charge you the renewal rate, so if the special is for new registrations only it wouldn't work for their expired names. When I try to renew a .co at Godaddy, it's charging me full price.

I think you can add one to your cart (without checking out) from the closeouts to see what they'll charge you, without making a commitment.

EDIT ** I Just added a closeout name to see what they'd charge and it was $29.99 without a coupon code

Thanks for the promo codes, the_poet. I was able to pick up 5 German .COs tonight (Food, Supermarket, Cigarettes, etc.) and they only cost me $39.

Personally, I'm done with hand reg's. The renewal costs are just too high even though I am often tempted. I will try to get some more July 19 drops when they come up but right now I'm paring down my portfolio so I can sit and wait for the right offers to come along or develop some of my more interesting ones. I regged a bunch last Feb when they had their promotion and looking at them now they aren't so hot. Sure, if they were dot com's I'd be a millionaire but they aren't and I'm not. I'm looking at over 8k a year in renewals and that's not pocket change for me.

Any hand reg at this point is really a donation to the registry. Nothing of value is available.

As far as your renewal fees, good luck recouping that on a yearly basis. I've learned over the years that quality is far superior to quantity

I absolutely agree...though I think I have a fair quantity of great quality IMHO...who knows though...we'll see how it pans out in the next couple of years. It's a nice extension and it should do okay. You just never know which ones are going to be big ones and which ones you hold year after year with no interested parties...that's the game though.

Ok guys, here is Real Life Testimony from today that .CO is beginning to REALLY "ring a bell" with the general public. I personally saw a fairly known local company with a .CO web address as their main Company website on their work vans.

After reading about 25 pages from this thread this weekend, reading tons of blogs and quora posts about .co's, I'm ready to make some first-time purchases this week.

I'm mostly interested in brandable names, so if anyone has some cluttering up their inventory, I have a post in the Wanted section.

Thanks for all of the great info and opinions!

These stories are more interesting than the big sale stories, at this point. It is catching on which is nice to see. Although I have a lot of respect for the .CO registry, the sale of Dolphin.co was not that earth-shattering. They are a company with loads of advertising cash. That was just the sale of a domain from one money-flush company to another. It appears to me that this sale has been a couple years in the making. I can't see any other reason the registry would keep Dolphin.co. There are many other better names that were released to the public.

IMO, if your are planning on developing it and the competition is low, might be worth it for the $10 reg fee. With those numbers, probably won't be a flip domain (without knowing the name). Good luck
