I use both
Main Machine - Powerbook 17" 2gb RAM 80gb internal + 250gb external
PC - P4 3.2 2gb RAM 3x 120gb RAID 5 + 80gb Boot
Here is a breakdown by type of use
- E-Mail
Winner - Mac
Mac doesn't suffer from virus's or malware, makes life much easier, other than that all the major apps Thuderbird/Outlook etc are all there.
- Web
Winner - None/Draw
The Mac doesn't suffer from exploits from websites, however there are come sites that are coded for windows only. However in real use I have to turn to my PC maybe once a month.
- Communications
Winner - Mac
Mac is built on Unix, it has a terminal and has built in full feature and stable SSH/FTP/Ping/Traceroute/Apache etc.
- Games
Winner - PC
Mac is still behind in the games market, though there are now some good games available. Most of the popular shoot em ups are slower on the Mac as the code is ported.
- Office
Winner - None/Draw
Mac has MS Office , Windows has MS Office, they work the same. Enough Said.
- Graphic Design/DTP
Winner - Mac
Photoshop and Quark were both made for the Mac originally, they integrate better and just seem to work more efficiently. The only plus for Windows is PSP for the home user, though you do have Gimp on the Mac nowdays.
In my opinion if you want to play games, get a PC/Xbox etc , if you are a professional then you can't beat a Mac, above what is said above a Mac does things like reliable monitor spanning, multiple IP configurations, better integration of bluetooth technologies etc.
User interface is a matter of choice, frankly they both work, mac interface is easier on the newbie and as such a windows user can pick it up in half a day.
