I hope .tel has some anti spam measures in place for .tel. It would be a spammers harvest paradise otherwise. Plenty of email addresses and phone numbers all for the taking.

A bit like genuine whois then.

I am testing this myself with one of my tel's and the spam is already rolling in - just as I and others suspected. The email is used nowhere else - created ONLY for the .tel domain and after just a few days it has already been scrapped.

Now with an actual website you can easily shield your email address...
Of course you are getting spam, you could put a test e-mail in this thread and you will get spam. You put an e-mail address anywhere on the internet and it will get spam.

Not to defend the .tel, I am still a skeptic but there is an option to make info public or private.

Try it again and make the e-mail address private. If you still get spam, that is a huge problem that .tel would need to address.

After thinking about the repercussions of popunders, I think I have to agree here. Our intentions may be good, but it would be a paradise for spammers.

As far as popups, slide across ads, popunders, some of the worst sites are major media sites. I hate that newest one (on Yahoo!), that seems to come from nowhere and just explodes on the screen (it must be embedded in the page itself).
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820

As users, we all hate them when they are imposed on us, yet advertisers love em.

To be clear, my vision of a popunder or popup relative to .TEL is more of a "hover over".
A brief description of the link to be clicked in advance of the actual click.
Perhaps in my earlier posts regarding the popunder/up term, my understanding of the semantic meaning was not being made clear via my responses.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820
I do like the idea of a "hover over" descriptive of a link prior to being clicked.
I think that would be cool and look good. But maybe not on all types of sites. Just as an option for certain sites.
No second thoughts here. My team and I are stoked! We are quite clear as to what can be done with these names at this time and look forward to further creative applications to the platform in the future. We captured great names in our niches and are very pleased to have spent our dollars to do so.
With the keyword generics we grabbed and using them as a simple directional bridge to our sites, the ROI is estimated to be several fold.
In the investment world they are called "ten-baggers"! And as my clients already know and have come to expect, "we did it again"!
But yeah, I hate spam too!

I just bought a few to flip, but someone mentioned an interesting approach at monetizing these with affliate links as the weblinks. Maybe put in 2-3 links and see how it works. Might as well try it a good paying keyword name like this! Wonder what the restrictions are on 'leasing out' the phone number every month?

You can rent or lease subdomains, but you have to keep control of it, which means you (not the customer) will have to add links, etc. to the card.

If you own a company, you can lend your employee a subdomain, and they may work on it (according to TOS), but I would imagine that unless Telnic approves a separate login for subdomains, most companies will fill in the subdomain for the employee.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820

When I was in the pre-order pool for ringtones[.]tel, I had thought about setting up a ringtone parking page (on a dot com site) and linking the .tel to it and also rent out some affiliate links on the main page and on subdomains (free.ringtones[.]tel)

I do have ring-tones[.]tel (GA pre-order reg), so I may do it still, given the the two-word version does garner over 100,000 exact searches a month. But that ringtones[.]tel would have been sweet (over 800,000 exact searches), and I could have charged a small fortune for a link (that is, once .tel takes off).

The point is, I think that with the right keywords, affiliate links could be very lucrative.

I think .TEL goes well with .MOBI, .COM, .ME, and .ORG. Yeah! No others, just those!
Here are 147 that I may put up for sale or open up for collaborative ventures.
I feel pretty good about recouping my investment.

Mesothelioma and Attorney are BIG money keywords, so the domain makes sense.

Yes, I definitely think you're right, the waters are starting to stir and a .tel storm is brewing, I can feel it in me sea legs (aarrgh, shiver me timbers!)... seriously though, a successful New Zealand entrepreneur once said "winning ideas often whisper, they don't shout"... many said that .tel wouldnt get off the ground and it did look like a pretty unassuming extension- basic and limiting, but those fortunate to appreciate it's point of difference and excellent timing as internet goes mobile, are sure to witness their instincts being correct.

I appreciate your critique tkstark.

I didn't realize that the text records were non-sequential. Actually, the txt records were bouncing around due to telhosting configuration error. But I simply consolidated "all" records into one contextual record in a attempt to minimize this problem.

Also, the Featured Sponsored categories were purposely setup as "example listing". I also edited this field with an example domain: "FeatureYourCompany.tld" to reflect ad space.

Take a look now: http://www.merchandise.tel
