I'm not trying to disqualify his opinion, just offering a word of caution. But thanks for being the spelling Nazi.

I've got mylastname.tel and can tell you that it's the best TLD I ever had in my life.
Today I had a meeting with the tourist board and at the end of the conference, everyone shares their contact informations (Business Card or writting down on a piece of paper), I forgot my BC at the office but it reminds me that I've got the .tel and was ready with all my infos (phone, email....) so when each member exchange their business card or write down... I say to each of them "sorry I don't have my business card, in 2009 it's obsolete (LOL), just write my lastname.tel or remember it, it's easy, log on the web and you'll get all my infos.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820
They were all like WOW, what's that .tel and most of them won't forget a BC in their pocket or leave on their desktop without been notice Mine will be unforgettable and they surely will take a look as soon as they get home or office.

.Tel Monetization

2) Is there even any way to prove to a potential advertiser how many visits my .tel gets?
Yes.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820

'Click-to-Call' marketing can be measured, even on .TELs.
It tracks the number of call from a specific campaign.

For example, you could track call routed from: (keywordsubdomain.keyword.tel) and the company would no where these calls originated from.

However, it involves integrating third party trackable telephone number.

This is the way that I will be structuring all of my .Tel directorys.
If any of you guys are interested in getting your .TEL setup in this manner, please PM me.

No.
It is more advantageous to setup your advertising contract based on an 'allocated dollar amount'.

For example, company ABC could allocate a $1500 to receive 150 which works out to about $10 per call.

Best of all, you don't have to worry about closing the sale..... That's the company's job!! All you have to do is 'drive calls' to their phonelines and get paid.

Hey..... $1500 a month ain't bad for a startup directory.... Now imagine this concept exponentially:

$1500 X 10 really good clients = $15,000 a month!!!

Think mobile.

.Tel is all about what people do and will do while on the go. Type in Pizza.tel and order a pizza via a .com mobile-compliant .com.

I have crosswords.tel (GA and not yet live), which could very easily connect to a mobile-compliant .com site with options for doing crossword puzzles directly on your phone. As mobiles become more sophisticated, you're going to see options for flashing virtual (and usuable) keyboards on flat surfaces and virtual screens on walls for playing games, etc., via your phone. We may not be there just yet, but it's coming, and .tel will be there as an adjunct to that mobile society.

Or get music directly from a .tel space.

I have calculator.tel (not live yet--when I get home from my conference). Some of the calculator terms get huge exact search term resultss, such as mortgage calculator, loan calculator, scientific calculator, amortization calculator, caloric calculator, Distance Calculator, etc. Meanwhile, I'm working on a simple calculator site (http://calculatortel.blogspot.com/ I haven't even CNAMED the site yet with its corresponding domain), which displays one calculator at a time. Each .tel subdomain (consisting of a high exact search term) will direct to its corresponding calculator on the dot com site, which does have adsense (I have turned off the image ads, though I doubt if this site is mobile-compliant. In a few years, it won't matter anyway).

Simplicity.

The .tel will not be a deep directory (only one subdomain deep), just the high ranking kinds of calculators because I know that if a calculator option is available, people will use their mobile phones when they are out and about and just need some quick calculations, for example, at the grocery store and for figuring out distances.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=561820

My .com site is crude because I'm not very tech savvy, but I think you can get the general idea of how .tel (great keyword) can link effectively to a .com site. I'll be getting a bang for my landrush dollars because many of the subdomain adjectives are actually higher ranking terms than just calculator. And to Google, they will look like two words with a space. And I'll never pay extra for those subdomains.

.Tel is about memorable letter-based phone numbers. Why would I type in 1-800-Flowers when I could type in Flowers.tel?

.Tel is about branding, both business and personal (vanity).

If .tel performs like I think it will, down the road, you'll see a hot button option for .tel (on mobile phones, that is, maybe not pcs), for example, type in domain keyword + * or # or even a purple .tel button (which could be actual or virtual). Shortcode numbers use hot buttons, so why not .tel?

If I owned Telnic, I would be working toward such a goal; I'd be in negotiations with all the major cell phone companies to make that hot button happen.

Personal note: for the first time, I gave out my personal .tel address. I'm at a conference, and the person was very surprised to see that such an extension exists. "Wow!" was the response I got.

Speaking of the conference, I have an 8:00 a.m. poetry workshop to run tomorrow.

Off to bed.
