![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have a question for Bido. If I vote for a domain name and the seller cancels the transaction do I get those votes returned to my account or are they gone forever? Sorry If it's asked before.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | @eggzap - I always recommend to check our sales archive: http://www.bido.com/SalesArchive The default sort is chronological, but you can click the column headers to get different perspectives as well. You can identify trends and learn about pricing, etc. @dtagr - This is being implemented. They will be returned if the transaction is canceled. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Would be awesome if Bido would just block domains within 60 days of expiry/registration. The vast majority of listings would evaporate (at least to judge by my browsing experience) and you'd lose two really annoying types of sellers -- idiot newbs who just registered their latest stray thought and now have it listed for a thousand dollars, and cynical burnouts listing their unwanted, soon-to-expire crap on the offchance that they can find a sucker. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=560553 Seriously, I can't believe the number of 14-days-or-less-to-expiry domains I've found while shopping the listings. How is that supposed to work? It's a thirty day voting window, and it takes around a week for auctions to go live ... so up to five weeks to get the auction going, but the domain expires in two? The only sensible angle of which I can think with this is that people are listing them to see if they get votes, and using that info as a feedback mechanism by which to decide whether or not to renew the domains. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I submitted two domains to Bido today. Have the auction setup for Monday. I thought there was like a 5 week cycle on this stuff? This was less than 24 hrs. Well... let's see how it goes.... (Y U B R and J M N J for the curious). I like Y U B R a lot. I just don't have time to do what I want with it.... especially now I got some TVs to play around with. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | [b]@defaultuser[b] The process could take up to five weeks (30 day voting window, and up to a week for an auction to go live.) Doesn't mean that it will. I've had a couple go up quickly lately myself; hope it's a trend. Frank |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi, can anyone explain me please, what's going on? So i just make a bid on the domain and the system show me that i'm the higher bidder, and after 5 minutes when the auction end i receive a message: ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=560553 Hello xxxxxx, User Y, with a high bid of $75.00, has won the auction for zzzzzzzzzz. If you would like to view the auction history, please click here. So here is the history: user Y 04/05/2010 14:16:55 (p) 75.00 my bid 04/05/2010 14:21:34 75.00 user Y 04/05/2010 14:16:55 68.00 my bid 04/05/2010 14:12:57 61.00 How is possible the system to show me that i have the higher bid and after the auction finished - User Y to win with the same amount? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The "p" stands for Proxy. If you click that (p) in the bid history, it will show you this: "This bidder placed a Proxy bid earlier in time. In response to other bids, the auction system automatically increases their bid in the smallest increment possible in order to maintain their lead position." So you can see user Y put a bid for the same amount about five minutes before you did. I'll explain better: You put a bid for $61: you 04/05/2010 14:12:57 61.00 User Y put a proxy bid for $75 but it only went in at $68, because that is all that was needed to beat you: ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=560553 user Y 04/05/2010 14:16:55 68.00 You then bid 75 to try and beat their 68, and it went in like this: you 04/05/2010 14:21:34 75.00 Instantly the system placed and displayed their bid of $75 (you popped their proxy): user Y 04/05/2010 14:16:55 (p) 75.00 Notice the timestamp on it as well as the (p) flag. It was placed at he same exact time as the $68 bid (it was really the same) but you only saw $68 at the time because it was all that was needed to beat you. This is why the system seems to have allowed two bids for the same amount, this can happen when you are trying to pop someone's proxy. However you had no way to tell it was a proxy when it was only at $68. About the part where you said "the system show me that i'm the higher bidder", it probably never showed you were the high bidder at $75, it always had that instant bid, perhaps you didn't notice. I even ran a simulated auction with the same play by play and clearly this red message showed up when placing the $75 bid: "Your bid has been placed, but outbid by another user." The system accepted the bid but you were outbid because a proxy existed. The message is in red and disappears after a few seconds. I will see about improving that and making it clearer to notice. To see another example of proxy bidding works, look at that same auction bid history again, closer. When he beat your $35 bid with $39, he really did it with a $40 bid, which you see was then finally automatically placed when you placed $43. I'm happy to discuss farther, hope the info helps. Regards, Jarred |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If the bidder put $75 - 4 min before, why the system allow me to put the same amount of money - 75? And also if you look at the Auction window you will see that there is only one bid - my bid for $75!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If its a live auction, bidding follows scales and it goes in as a "proxy", only enough to beat the person before you. This is all also explained in our FAQ: http://www.bido.com/Info/FAQ This remainder is hidden. For that reason, other people can put the same amount for it, and if they do, it will finally reveal your proxy. I explained in my previous post the details about how it worked. Again: You put a bid for $61. User Y put a proxy bid for $75 but it only went in at $68, because that is all that was needed to beat you. You then bid $75 to try and beat their $68. Instantly the system placed and displayed their bid of $75 (you actually revealed the maximum of their proxy). You stopped bidding. Their earlier bid beat your bid placed after (the earliest bid when two matching bids are placed will win). ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=560553 About the auction window, I see both in the bid history. I see many many bids actually. You lost the auction because someone else put a proxy bid before you and you never put more than theirs. You ignored or did not see the red note about being outbid by another user. Anyway, we will make it even clearer and less confusing as you indicated perhaps it can be even easier to realize. My advice to prevent this in the future, is to not put the minimum suggested bid amount, put more, and you will start to use proxy bidding also and take advantage of the benefits. Proxy bids will be automatically placed as needed just enough to beat (or match and beat) other bidders. There is no error that happened here, this is all standard functionality of how bidding and proxy bidding works. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | How is Vote for Profits going for everybody? I can't decide if I'm a rockstar or a dud -- about 7% of the domains on which I vote which have gone to auction have sold. I like it because I've voted on (imo) very few domains, fewer than 200 in almost two months using Bido. And that's a lot better than the sell-through rate at say SEDO or eBay. On the other hand, getting basically 1 out of 14 right sure doesn't sound very legendary. I have no idea why I'm obsessing over it, but I'd almost like to see a leaderboard on V4P ... see who is the master of calling these sales in advance. Frank |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | V4P, I like it... About the leaderboard suggestion, it's a good idea, and this is currently planned. If you would like to be instantly notified when it's released, you can post it up on http://feedback.bido.com and when it's here, we'll update the page and it will notify you and any other supporters who vote it up while it's pending. One thing about this that I would like to mention, being willing to be listed on the leaderboard will be entirely opt-in. One thing you can do currently is enable the items you voted for, and share that with others who visit your profile. Check out this link, it will take you to your profile: http://www.bido.com/ViewProfile From there, click the tab for "Items I voted for" and click "show" to enable sharing of the info. I think it might also help to increase your success rate, because it brings exposure to the items you voted for, and as we know well, the more exposure, the greater the chance for sale. So as you share your profile URL with others, it helps all involved, and you'll perhaps get a better score, and earn more money for voting. In any event, thanks for sharing your voting success percentage here on NamePros, it'll be interesting to hear if others chime in and discuss theirs. As you said, "that's a lot better than the sell-through rate at say SEDO or eBay", we tend to agree and the numbers speak volumes, we usually leave that to others to realize, as you did, thank you. We don't touch on that topic a lot in our communication, but as you said, it's an attractive sell through rate. It's actually the core of Bido, we build everything around this balance. The overall average is around 1 in 6, but this is looking at thousands of auctions, of course individuals will vary in their voting success and accuracy, and in time the numbers will fluctuate. Especially as we increase the volume of inventory, which we are working on. We will always watch these things and aim to provide the most attractive balance and positive experiences for everyone who uses Bido. Before I get too far into those topics, I would like to hear more ideas from the community on how to be a better voter, how to vote well and how to help the items sell. We have features in the pipeline and the feedback helps us tailor the platform better. It's a great discussion, thanks. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=560553 Regards, Jarred |
