I can think of several black-hat reasons to vote for worthless domains that you have no interest in. Here's one example:

Suppose you have a name with 3 votes and you are worried about it getting enough before time runs out. Since the default listing shows the best names first (i.e., the names with the most votes and with most days left), one way to make your domain more prominent on the list is to vote for every domain that has gotten four votes. Keep emptying the list that's ahead of you. (Conversely, never vote for a good domain that's behind you.)

Personally, I don't understand why anybody would EVER vote for a domain that they actually wanted to bid on. It is much better to send it to auction by pre-bidding $28 right away, for (at least) these reasons:

1. No other voters will get notified by email that a domain they voted for is coming up for auction -- because there won't BE any other voters. So your competition is reduced.

2. You're guaranteed to get in the first bid. Ties go to the earliest bid. (And you get that piddling pre-bid discount besides!)

3. The seller has that much less time to think about outside promotion to end-users, optimizing auction descriptions, etc. If he had expected it to take several weeks to get the votes, he thought he had more time to be researching/courting potential buyers to send to the auction.

Yeah, it's a flawed system.

Well, my first four Bido auctions are now live in progress, and I don't see any tab for a chat or conversation. Isn't there supposed to be one? Where is it, how do I get to it? There's still a checkbox for controlling whther comments get seen in the main scrolling window, but there are no comments, and I can't see a way to comment on any of the auctons in rogress. What am I missing???

Since I had all sorts of canned patter about the domains ready to paste in at intervals, so that attention in the main scrolling area would periodically be called to my auctions, I'd say it could in theory have hurt the results. But probably not in fact. No way to know.

Anyway, I've got more auctions on Thursday, and on each Tues and Thurs for several weeks, so we'll see...

Nobody views individual chatrooms, so a little puffery there would just go unnoticed. Those interested in chat just go to the main lobby room, and when I've checked it out while auctions were going on there's never been more than 5-7 people in there.

I second your comment - those little chat rooms do almost nothing and rarely have any visitors. The main chat, on a good day, will be 20+, but 5+ is probably average outside of prime time.

Wow. So what's the whole point of Bido? Self-labeled a "social" platform, I could get a bigger audience just running an auction thread on DNForum or NamePros. Where does Bido find a reason for being?

It took me a bit of work over time to submit the domains, wait for votes, set-up the auction times, publicize the auctions at NP & DNF (only one thread per day there), pick a you tube video to make the auction stickier, etc.

...and the traffic (and results) so far doesn't beat what I can get just by posting an auction thread on a domainer forum elsewhere.

I've sold so far two domains on Bido, both of which were .cc domains for $xxx, both of which would of never sold on this forum for that much, if at all. Bido seems to be working for me so far for my .cc domains. I think Bido attracts buyers from all the domain forums, so it's a nice collective of possible bidders.

Regarding the bit of work you did, we try to build the platform to simplify those things. Verifications are done in bulk, and you can set your account to enable "autolist" which basically puts the auction setup step on autopilot. When your domains get enough votes, they get scheduled.
