Pepsi messed up as well. They didn't register "pepsuber", which was the main marketing plot of one of their commercials. I blogged about it a couple days ago on teendomainer.com

The long domain is just for a promotion folks Plenty of companies do this - They also own their own brands and usually plenty of other nice domains.

http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/kitkat/
http://www.kitkat.com/

Quote:
Domain Name: KITKAT.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Whois Server: whois.tucows.com
Referral URL: domainhelp.opensrs.net
Name Server: AMSDNS1.NESTLE.COM
Name Server: AOADNS1.NESTLE.COM
Name Server: CTRDNS1.NESTLE.COM
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/556453-kitkat-screwed-up-bigtime-got-cybersquatted.html
Name Server: EURDNS1.NESTLE.COM

Now as far as the typo goes ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not a blatant case of cybersquatting?

I hate to appear to be adopting the moral high ground here, but are we condoning such tactics?

I'm a fan of shorter/more memorable call to action domains, but is a domain like this really a good one (even the non-typo) to be promoting?

I really don't see this domain as an intelligent one to use for promotion -- I can't even remember it in the 2 minutes which have elapsed since I started writing this post... And a typo...

I don't condone it, but it is kind of humorous to me because it was such a careless and stupid error. If this was indeed a cybersquatter who reg'd the "where" domain, KitKat had to pay up quickly. There was no time to go through the proper legal channels to secure their (correctly spelled) domain. Unethical or no, the guy probably made the best flip of his life.
