Congrats. I've been trying to quit the last few years but can't. I've only been smoking about 3 years now though. I give you props. I myself am trying to cut down before quiting.

There is no "cutting back". It's a "do (quit) or die" kinda thang.

I tried to cut it down 1000 times to find myself taking it more in those cutting out days.

Cutting out on it doesn't works

I was eating some pills when I quit smoking and now I don't smoke, but it seems to me that it mainly depends on the person's will...

Good luck.. I gave up using patches but be warned they could give you bad nightmares.. they did me

As for cutting down.. didnt work for me. Had to be the all out quit or nothing. Even now after 4 years I still miss it now and them and am sure if I had that *one* I would be back to 20 a day instantly.

I thought I had great will power and boasted to my friends that I could quit Cold Turkey no problem. Well that failed in 2 days.(should have kept my mouth shut, LOL) then I tried cutting down. that lasted about 10 days. Now I have admitted defeat and will try the patch!

I have smoked for nearly 15 years , its a little harder to quit than I thought.

I survived 35 years of damage as you put it. I went cold turkey 12 years ago and never went back to that bad old filthy habit. Keep up the fight Nick and the others.

Cancer Survivorship Breast Cancer
LOL reading this thread made me think of something really funny.

A friend and I had bought a carton when i was in college. So we would not have to go to the store constantly ect ect ect. Anyways a day later we decided we needed to quite half way through our first packs. We looked at a friend of ours and gave him the packs we had and said "do not give us any!" He then proceeded to throw them out the window. We started freaking out and saying "WTF did you do that for?!" He says, "You told me not to give you any..." After that we thought about the whole carton we had left in the dorm room. Got to thinking who we could give them to but no one that we liked came to mind. So we decided to finish out the carton in the coming days just because we didn't want to waste the money spent on them. By the 3rd day we had finished the carton and ended up even more addicted than we had started the previous days.

My advice, JUST STOP SMOKING!

I'd have to agree with you. Alcohol, cigarettes & sex will always be superior markets. The last thing the government wants is for people to give up sinning. If we did, what would they tax?

Wow, I was just thinking of posting a thread on this topic and this thread was right there. WOW. Kind of erie.

I am hoping to get one of those prescriptions that makes you puke when you smoke. That should make me quit. I used to be an avid runner, 10K was easy for me. Now I can't mow the lawn without losing my breath. Then again, it is very humid this year. lol

I made it 2 weeks once, then my now ex-wife brought home a carton and chain smoked in front of me. That was the end of my strength right there. Does that mean my heart attack will be on her Karma? LOL!

Exactly I used to jump over the gates instead of opening and closing them. But then with tobacco I wasn't even able to walk

lol, I know exactly how it feels. LOL Well I guess the good spin to the high cig taxes in the US is that I will not be able to afford smoking too much longer.
