It also happened to me, once. Now I cut and paste the domain name in google before buying it. Google's results page points out any typos.

Yeah did it once, got me throubadour.net instead of troubadour.net.

It has nearly happend to me several times but luckily i always manage to avoid it by double and triple checking the name thanks to my ocd.
