I have a site about selling options, I want to help it get traffic. Though the ways you share can help, I'm still confused. Usually it takes for months for a site approved in a directory. The faster way is payment. There are plenty of directories, we can't know which ones are trusted to pay. We can't pay for all or make link exchange with all. About social bookmarking, sometimes our links are deleted without notification. We don't submit our sites in just one or two huh? So, how can we manage. It's really hard. I hope you guys can share with me experiences to make these way the most effective. Thanks a lot!

Yes i am not really in favor of Directory submission.
Some directories takes time or a couple of months before they
approve your submission.
especially when you're just submitting it for free

I agree! Before you participate in doing Off-Page Optimization, do first On-Page Optimization. It deals with the proper use of meta tags, alt-tags, title tags, headings (h1/h2 tags), description and keywords.

Free Directory Submission will get more time to approve than Pay Submission.. If you submit your link on a high PR Directory it will be better. Try to Bookmark on a Do-Follow Sites. Bookmarking give you first result...
