Your friend can reg if he/she kept their Canadian citizenship. As long as they are Canadian citizens they can reg .ca's no matter where they live. They also have to be of the age of majority for the Province in which the last resided. Province Age of Majority Alberta 18 British Columbia 19 Manitoba 18 New Brunswick 19 Newfoundland and Labrador 19 North West Territories 19 Nova Scotia 19 Nunavut 19 Ontario 18 Prince Edward Island 18 Quebec 18 Saskatchewan 18 Yukon Territories 19 The simple fact of the matter is that they will be reg'd in your friends name, not your's and you will have no recourse should your "friend" decide to keep them for themselves. Just something to think about.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good advice Len. As for those companies offering local presence - I've yet to see actual legalese or plain English that says that is actually allowed. If someone has a definitive answer please let me know! I asked CIRA via email and all I got was an answer to a question I didn't ask - three times...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | early renewal for some ccTLDs ??? A rep at Moniker just told me some ccTLDs must be renewed at least 2 months prior to exp date - or you will lose them. Is this true? If so, which of the following does this apply to: .cc .co.uk .de .in .tv .us .ws I have names in all of these ccTLDs coming up for renewal in the next few months. So any clarification on this would be much appreciated! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From the ones I have, .de has to be done earlier than the expiry date. .cc goes right to the expiry date, but I think the redemption is shorter (can't remember) .in goes right to the expiry date, and regular redemption period. |

![]() | Why wait 'til the last minute? I renew 6 months to 4 years early. I personally am not interested in losing something I lease. I see several posters a year 'crying' because they waited to long and lost their lease. Some kept the domain after paying a premium 'redemption fee'.

CIRA POLICIES, RULES, AND PROCEDURES GENERAL REGISTRATION RULES Version 3.11 http://www.cira.ca/en/documents/2008...rulesv3.11.pdf 2.1 Canadian Presence Requirements. After public consultation, CIRA has determined that the .ca domain space should be developed as a key public resource for the social and economic benefit of all Canadians. Accordingly, Applicants must meet certain Canadian Presence Requirements. While the Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants set out below still require a connection to Canada, they will enable a much broader group of persons to register a .ca domain name than under the policies and rules of the UBC Registry. CIRA is committed to reviewing these Canadian Presence Requirements from time to time in order to ensure they remain in the best interests of Canadians and the CIRA Registry. Only the following individuals and entities will be permitted to apply to CIRA (through a CIRA Certified Registrar) for the registration of, and to hold and maintain the registration of, a .ca domain name. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=507107 (a)Canadian citizen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, I would bet there's a lot of people that don't realise there is that particular restriction. I could see it possibly leading to a domain being taken from a "Minor" if someone complained loud enough, especially if they were holding a good one that someone wanted for themselves but didn't want to pay a decent price for. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Non US person regging a .US Seen a .us that I'm interested mainly for holding to sell at some stage as part of a set in a niche that could be big in the future. Not being from the US are there any techniques I could use to reg this and hold on to it and potentially sell in years to come with out fear of having it suspended? due to me not being from the US. I guess I could reg it with someone elses name under the owner however I feel it is not really your then. Any Suggestions. Cheers SiGa

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You do not need to be a citizen of USA in order to register a .US domain. Go ahead!

1.A natural person (i) who is a United States citizen, (ii) who is a permanent resident of the United States of America or any of its possessions or territories, or (iii) whose primary place of domicile is in the United States of America or any of its possessions [Nexus Category 1] 2.A United States entity or organization that is (i) incorporated within one of the fifty (50) U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or any of the United States possessions or territories, or 2.B Organized or otherwise constituted under the laws of a state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia or any of its possessions or territories (including a federal, state, or local government of the United States or a political subdivision thereof, and non-commercial organizations based in the United States) [Nexus Category 2] or 3.A foreign entity or organization that has a bona fide presence in the United States of America or any of its possessions or territories [Nexus Category 3]. Solution:1 If none of these categories applicable to you, then you may try to obtain a LLC (Limited Liability Company) approval within any of the 50 states of the U.S. An active LLC registration within the U.S allows you to register .us names even though you are not an U.S citizen. This solution is somewhat complicated, but it is a genuine and leagl way for non-U.S citizens to register and hold .us names. Solution:2 Very simple way. Ask any of your U.S friends to register the domain name under their registrant contact details for you. Hope this helps!

37.50€ = C$60 ...Who in their right mind is going to pay that when they cost as low as C$10.45? Plus the added uncertainty that you don't really have any claim to the domain! | ||||
