GoDaddy does charge taxes on .ca names where applicable.
Canadians will be charged GST and I believe that since GoDaddy Canada is in Ontario then Ontario residents will also be charged PST.
If you are outside of Canada and still qualify for a .ca you shouldn't be charged any tax.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/cctld-discussion/507107-cctld-registration-discussion-and-promo-offers.html

I regged credenza.ca through GoDaddy today, used promo code, and was charged CAD$11.25 plus $00.56 tax for a total of CAD$11.81. I am in B.C.

Can't see why GoDaddy being a .ca registrar will have much affect on number of registrations overall. They aren't the cheapest nor the best.

Quote:
thank GOD, now i can get the hell out of netfirms...
Netfirms has not been the only option available for registering .ca domains and I think you'd be better off considering some of the really good registrars like NamesPro.

.de domains

Hi,

I was wondering if .de domains are available for anyone to buy (UK/US based) - or do you have to be domiciled in Germany?
Also where can i find a list of .de sales.

Thanks

There are residency requirements for .ca domains. cira.ca lists all the requirements.

If you don't meet the requirements you could still ask a relative or friend in Canada (if any) to be the registrant. This opens a whole bunch of issues of course so consider wisely before leaping in.

And oh yeah, CIRA pulls domains from those not meeting the requirements often.

Just an FYI for those buying .ca's at Godaddy,
they do put them in your current account management
system, no second or separate account required

eurodns are quite pricey but not bad across the board, they also suppply a proxy address, quite legitimately, so satisfy the requirements your end.
so in short anyone can reg a .de there, wherever you are based

Cancer
I've bought a number of .de's and I've seen quite a few sold from stats on NameBio. The good stuff is already gone, which encouraged me to do some serious hunting. From what I've read, .de is second or third in sales behind dot com and dot info. All of the LLLL's are gone, most of the single words and most of the geo's.

... some recent sales ...

Dallas.de - $6,621 - Feb 2008
Haiti.de - $6,768 - Feb 2008
Hongkong.de - $13,978 - Sep 2007
Hawaii.de - $31,367 - Oct 2007

There are several providers that offer to meet the .de German presence requirements by proxy, but you should carefully read the legal terms and consider the risks accordingly... caveat emptor !

netim.eu registrar?

Does anyone here have any experience with Netim.eu (netim.co.uk, netim.ch)

They have great prices for european cctld's but I'm not sure if they're 100% reliable. Does anyone know anything about them?

Thanks

It is easy to do for non-canadians, in just 2 steps,

1. Register a "Canadian Presence" Corporation ($667)
http://www.arvic.com/orders/starting.asp#Presence

2. Start registering .ca's

i never heard about them. 6€ for a .eu looks a nice price (althought i dont like .eu). I know another spanish registar (dondominio.com) wich price for .eu is 7,95, a little bit more but they are quite reliable

in addition, i've checked their prices and they are just a little bit cheaper than other registars

If you just want a few names (or if you really trust the person), you can always get a Canadian citizen to register the domains and hold them in their account for you.
