TMN is an unknown quantity at this point

Twitter seems like the perfect stalking devise, I don't see any long term utilitarian value to a platform that mobile devices are already serving. It's just one of those Web 2.0 fads that will be experimented with because 'everyone is using it so its cool', probably good for some niche communities, say. follow Barrack Obama, but definitely not mainstream beneficial by any sane standards.

Follow the fad...

This is your opinion TMN. Fair enough. But over 5 million users (many more by now) is a pretty impressive number by now.

Twitter is more then a fad in my opinion.

Good idea starting this thread! Great timing too, we recently added a feed that casts a fairly large net across the domainersphere on Twitter - we find it really useful! http://DNHeadlines.com

Does the feed on your home page grab every tweet with the word 'domain' in?

Our Twitter feed grabs the posts across a pretty wide range of domain related content. I've played with it and tweaked it and it's pretty cool - I end up going back every 30 minutes or so just to try to catch up

Google is the perfect stalking device

I'm still trying to understand Twitter myself. I find it interesting to listen to what other people have to say but don't really know what to do with it.

I think the trick is to concentrate on building up a base of followers that are genuinely interested in your content... and then it just starts to grow organically.

I've used it to promote a tech directory domain I developed to flip. (in sig) With 400 followers I am getting 8-10 clicks per day to the website direct from twitter.

Most tweets are just auto-updates of blog posts and new links from the site.

It is also picking me up new submitters to the site's directory, and a couple of other useful contacts like a writer that is now planning a JV with me to develop a similar site to flip.

I guess that doesn't sound like a flood of traffic, but if it is on-topic, I think a reliable 300 uniques per month from 1 source is more than valuable enough to make the initial few days effort to get it kicked off worthwhile.

I've actually got a lot more traffic from facebook than twitter, but 'think' the twitter traffic is MANY times more valuable than facebook. (testing them both for the first time with this site)

I agree with you Optional, the key is to get follow people interested in a certain niche (you can find them on twitter groups) and hope that they follow back and check your website while they're at it.

I tried promoting a new forum of mine on twitter, and within several minutes I got sign ups & people posting! I'm so glad about that. I don't want to abuse on it though, so I do limit the number of people I follow per day or every other day.

There is a Domainer Twitter Directory here: http://justtweetit.com/domainers/

Would be easy for everyone to add each other if we were all listed in one place.

I have multiple twitter accounts - my domain-related one is http://twitter.com/domainerx and I like to follow insightful tweets. I enjoy reading each tweet but when you're tweeting >10 times a day, I think that's a bit much.
