For the past few months I have been developing a local portal service. This portal features a local/entertainment search using the Yahoo API. It also features an RSS news feed from local news sources.
I have this set up to search a specific state, all the end user has to do is put in a city.
This portal also features classifieds, a message board, member functions such as an inbox, search for members, a chat, edit profile, view profile, change password, etc.
In the second version I'm going to be adding stock quotes, small text based games, and a couple more features I have hiding up my sleeves.
I'm going to be selling these portals as part of localportal.mobi when it's up, but I wanted to gain some interest to see if people wanted to lease any of these early.
I'm currently working on an admin panel that will give you total control of your site, without going into PhpMyAdmin.
I'm still trying to figure out if I want to sell the script outright, with terms of service being you may not duplicate, resell or reuse the script without permission or purchase of another copy.
Another option is to host them and give users access to the admin panel. I've put alot of work into this portal, and ultimately I dont want to get ripped off in the end.
