Couple threads in Domain Discussion going on and on about. Or you can read the thread at www.thedomains.com.
Interesting but stupid, we have seen this experiment. .name .jobs .travel etc... Does the average person know them ? NO they don't even know .us or .biz.
I disagree on multiple levels, including your statements that it's been tried before and that it's stupid. No wonder this sub-forum looks like a ghost town.

Well if you think many extensions is smart that's great I do not. And the subforum has had more traffic than it ever has.
.name,.asia..aero..museum.jobs.travel.coop all words that have no real pick up int he real world. SO now others can try and maybe they will get people to jump.
Recently, it appears that many comments that aren't pro dot tv are being deleted.
This is unlike you, and obviously not conducive to an intelligent debate. The only reason I know this is because I've subscribed to many of the threads in the forum and get email notifications of the posts. Then when I logon here, the posts have been removed. If you need specific examples, please let me know.
Respectfully, I think you should reconsider the true role of a "moderator". IMO.

MANY I have deleted two so if that is many, other threads have been deleted as people demanded it
Please pm them and you will be told the reasons why, the only comment deleted was snoops in the .tv overtaking other extensions. Because it was not on topic.
But keeping this thread on topic, I do not know whether ebay starting .ebay helps or hurts .tv I think people need to look at their own portfolios and see what will and what will not.
I don't think that will hurt .tv, what it will do, though, is perhaps offer some opportunity to create an seo friendly extension for specific product or topical niches. I suppose it all comes down to cost.
PM sent. His post was on topic and within the rules of this forum. It was deleted within seconds of another deleted post so maybe the second one was deleted by mistake?

the forex investor domainer in .tv
That's a pretty strong statement. Around my area, when I talk about .TV, all I get is blank stares.
Then again I live in rural South Carolina and see blank stares on a regular basis.

I think .tv will emerge a winner out of this. Its to the point and faster to type, easier to remember than .video .film ."genre" .movie .cam and other potential niche competitors. It also has a headstart in terms of page longevity, although a lot of that depends on how much weight the search engines place on the extension. .biz, .mobi, and other unspecific "unclear" domains will probably get hammered by Icann's move.
Premium keywords, especially topical to the extension will probably do best in appropriate extensions, once the dust clears. Dot TV has some advantages because it works well with brandables, looks good on television advertisements, is in many ways a first mover, and has a reasonable latitude in what works well with the category created by the extension. It is also memorable, and will stick when advertised.
Some companies have already worked on defining a specific .tv domain as a branding feature, they will not all rush to change positions. Video content is a proven feature of the internet and will be around for a while, it has the advantage of being producable by a decent sized segment of the population. Dot TV is premier because of its associations with the comfortable tv as well as its video media associations.
It also has reinforcement characteristics when used in outside media advertisement, its an extension that fits surprisingly well on the television screen and since its a short extension it allows text to be displayed in larger more powerful fonts, while being less distracting to the advertised name. Positionally speaking, its a winner. It also provides an opportunity to re-brand/re-position to a degree if the company which holds the name has a fairly cumbersome moniker.
The new extensions will change the playing field, it also will create a darwinian effect on the extension names in terms of positioning value. I think quality .tv names will do quite well, relatively speaking, during this transition.
Topical extensions will intensify keyword values, fortunately .tv is already a natural in many ways. Midgrade to lowergrade names are probably going to be affected the most severely.
Thats my take on it. I think .tv is positioned well for the future.
I see advertisers beginning to fuel the .tv market.
Dot cam has potentials as it will appeal to the individual webcaster, but I doubt you will see much cross media advertising with it. I agree that anything endorsed by big players will do well, everyone will want a piece of the action. Tv has better overall positioning than Cam, in my opinion. A person with a cam is already aspiring towards tv.
When a site has millions of results in a search engine, a lot of players will resort to outside advertising to entice people to their websites. Television is a popular media of choice, and you have to ask yourself what website names look good on TV. The ones that do will look good to buyers and ad execs.
Sure, if you want to promote yourself a bit for your myspace page you might want a dot cam, but if you want to promote to millions of viewers/visually oriented people you are going to want the legitimacy and built in recognition that comes with dot TV. The people financing those decisions have the money to spend and have indicated a predisposition to do so just by engaging in television marketing to begin with.
These are of course, just my opinions, but it definitely makes sense to me. Naturally, I will diversify a bit, but I plan on placing a lot of bets on dot tv.
