i keep my laptop in the kitchen- it is wireless to my main desltop in the office-
i am going on vacation- can i take my laptop and use it "wireless" if i am not at home? do i need something special to like sit on the beach and be online?
welll, the house we rented does not ;-( it is a beach community-
dang, i thought if you caught a hot spot or something like that, you could go online-
(you can see my laptop has never left my kitchen)
Most Motels have free access. So just depends on how close one is to the beach.
But for me last year when I went on vacation I took my laptop and it was the worse thing I could have done after all it was supposed to be vacation not surfing online. so this year mine will stay home.
With a card like that you are completely independent but of course it cost you whatever your provider is charging for your airtime/minutes
Some provider like sprint are offering it for 60 bucks a month i think, AT&T has their Media Net etc
(But maybe talking with your provider helps further, if you are not using it constantly i wouldn't get one because remember, you have to get a plan with it) :-)
Yeah if your lucky you should be able to find a hotspot. They are everywhere. I remember seeing McDonalds advertising wifi now and I know alot of coffee shops already have wifi like starbucks. It is becomming more and more common these days. I remember my hotel even had wireless once. Just be careful because some places may try to profit off their wireless access and may want to charge you a fee to use it. But wifi is definately becomming pretty common these days.
i just called geek squad who set up myy laptop- and yeah, i can go to like mcdonalds in ocean city and they have free wifi hot spots, so does the panera bread there- i called them and they said just sit down, and log on- they are free there and a few other places- i found a hot spot list-
cool- i will do that- check email with my mcmuffin :-)
it is true- i am ALL the time- a bit less with summer and kids- but thats why the laptop is in the kitchen- i can always have quick access- but in the past few years, vacations always had a place to plug in the laptop- this place we are renting, they did not have internet access at all! can you imagine
