Legitimate vs Immoral: .mil/.edu/.gov links

I know the importance of these links to Google and it's drone bots, but I'm interested in hearing about personal experiences rather than search engine stories.

I personally score these links through legitimate exchanges but oftentimes people buy them. Forget about Google for a minute and share with me what you think about both legitimate and immoral .mil, .gov and .edu linkage and any negative effects.

Think of it this way:

People who see a link on any .mil, .gov, and .edu site automatically think of it as quality resource. People automatically think it's a site supported by whatever web page it's on.

Just hope that people do not get tricked into anything from these links....

There is some truth to that. From my observations, there are people who are part of the .mil and .edu community, that search similar sites and they truly don't care about links in comments.

I'm on both the back end and front end and I think unless you actually have a blog or forum on a .mil or .edu site, I don't think linking is perceived as a positive by humans in comment areas.

I better keep quiet before google adds this to it's growing list of reasons to spank legitimate PR.

That's a good point, I wouldn't be surprised if they did knock off the .edu links. More and more of these links are being sold and traded daily.

Google probably doesn't want anyone to get good free ratings just cause of a .gov, .mil, or a .edu link that has nothing to do with the website it's on.

Search for "viagra" and you will find loads of edu sites

Its becoming more and more saturated nowadays.

I think it should have been knocked off way before, but google is taking its time.

I would put more weight in algo for community links rather then edu links. Atleast the communities are moderated ones.
