Hotels.eu points to Hotels.com using an Ian.com affiliate link so "if" it gets much traffic yet then it should be making something.

I think they are both owned by the same person/s

That's probably all it was. Some of the high price sales looked a bit strange for such an early market with little actual activity. It seemed like an attempt to talk up the market. Looking at recent sales, many of the domains seem like business names. Given that over 81% of UK businesses that applied for their tradename as a .eu failed to get them, this could be a pattern of recoveries rather than sales.
