A lot of money. That doesn't mean the record label deserves 3 million and the artist gets $30.
I don't listen to bands that are with major record labels. Indie labels treat their artists a hell of a lot better.
What about unsinged bands that tour?
Get rid of the record industry and you get rid of the junk bands that should have never made it mainsteam. The day record labels thought more about the money then they did the artist is the day music died.
They have enough money to take the chance to sign a band that may flop. Why risk money on a band that wont sell when they can sign a band and just throw money at it to make them popular?
Record companies making millions of hard working artists make me sick.

You can't get blood from a turnip/stone, and EU and other European/Developed countries are caring less and less for US court decisions. Not going into what part of the verdict would be punitive (Germany and others have begun to summarily "throw out" punitive awards from the US as opposed to the historical practice of "a valid judgment is a valid judgment is a valid judgment" - the US is one of only a handful of countries to have "punitive" damages available to private litigants.), but whether through protection through bankruptcy or other remedy, the MPAA will suffer a huge net loss as a result of this litigation.
I believe that I can decide for myself what music I enjoy.
Tom Petty has a new song about the "Last DJ" who plays what he wants to play. Record industry control prevents the majority of bands from being heard while a few chosen bands get all the air time - and the vast percentage of the money does not ever get to the band. Petty and the other great bands would rise to the top virally if there were no music industry - there would be a lot more variety and the junk bands would not be rammed down our throats.
Super mega concerts might be less common, but live music is a lot older than recorded music. The (music) world would go on. The internet will largely replace the record store, and long tail marketing will open up possibilities for many new artists. I would rather see a lot of musicians making a decent amount of money than a few making millions while most are making nearly nothing.
Music has declined ever since the Beatles broke up. (only partly joking).
Oh how easy it is to forget that there was a classaction lawsuit against the CD companies for price-fixing in the 90's .
I personally bought 5 cd's a week during those 10 years , at an illegal inflated price set by the CD companies.
So, they can go ....
---
Ah yes , let's also forget that those same companies get a royality for every blank 'music' cd sold, and for every 'cassette' sold, they make money even if people use those cassettes for their own projects!!
---
They make money , and make you feel guilty, Are they going to give a refund if the music sucks? flat out no
