Is it easier to have someone customize a shopping cart or have the entire site built?
 

Hi, is it easier to have someone customize a shopping cart or is it better to have someone build the entire site?

What is usally less expensive? and is it better to BUY the cart or get a free one?

This is my first ecommerce site, so Im not sure which way to do this, apprecaite any help you can give me...

What type of budget do you have? Do you have any web design or development experience?

I would say it would be nice to be sure that the site is built using something that others in future could also understand. For example, what if the current programmer is no longer available. For this reason, choosing existing cart software may be better.

I think having a open source solution will help because there are loads of programmers who can customize these solutions and because these are open source they have loads and loads of documentation and support available.
