Any Advice on a CMS?

Hello all:
You have all been good about answering questions for me so here's the latest:

Any thoughts about a CMS? My CPanel gives me a choice of the following:
Content Management
Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla
Mambo Open Source
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
TYPO3
Xoops

It would be to view and edit content for a publication and we would put it under a password system. The new editor of the publication came and asked me about it.
Thanks in advance

I started with fantastico/cpanel too, tried some of those CMS's, and finally decided for Drupal. I no longer use cpanel for installations because once you start adding modules, you shouldn't update using fantastico.

Another option to start with is Wordpress, which is also a CMS and its learning curve is not as bad. But, if you are thinking longterm, I would advice to go with drupal.

The same goes to me, Drupal is just the best CMS ;)
There are hundreds of modules that you may install to make your site even better. Compared to other CMS, Drupal is very easy to be use and understand.

Have you made a choice yet ?

anything you've mentioned is good for the jog, but if you're after security try drupal or joomla.

joomla, drupal and wordpress
you can find lots of plugins to make your job easier

I've used lots of cms systems in my time, PHPNuke, Joomla, Mambo, Xoops, e107, Wordpress and more.

Personally, I dislike Joomla very much. Its everything I hate in a CMS, its over complicated and has really unwanted features. The ones I like are Wordpress and Drupal. I have used e107 a lot but I've grown to dislike its development style. Its also one of the least easiest to code modules/plugins for.

Thank you all for your advice. I did decide to go with Drupal and see if this will work for the new editor.

I like joomla and I have built many websites for my clients base on Joomla.

First of all: Forget Php Nuke!

nullmind 05-26-2008 09:41 AM

Joomla and WP have the easiest template system and are very simple to use imho
Drupal is more difficult to learn and I've found template system more complicated, but if you need flexibility Drupal is the best choice

I would recommend Wordpress. It's simple and powerful.

I would recommend try yourself all of them thanks to Open Source CMS, a site which has all of those CMS posted here and many otherw with working demos so you can try before install, this is the URL www.opensourcecms.com

Joomla by a longshot

Joomla has lots of extensions available for it. If there is a function you want to perform with your CMS...chances are someone else has built the plugin.

Couldn't agree more, never really got on with phpNuke.

Drupal and Joomla, like many other responses here, are the way forward. Probably your best options. :)

wordpress and Joomla as they have Great mods for both of them. wordpress is better for SEO and can be easyer for the user to use but Joomla can have more power

Agreed! Major security risk.

Check out zikula - formally postnuke. There is not one shred of code left from the php nuke days.

Thanks men!
As a matter of fact, php-nuke was my first cms. When I remember all the time spent trying to improve that dead thing! With that time my sites could have much more content and traffic!
