could someone here tell me the difference of free web hosting and paid web hosting? I really dunno things about this arena and I want to set up a personal domain. Should I start and try with free web hosting or should I go ahead for the paid ones?

Free hosting is hard to come by these days. The main difference between free hosting and paid hosting is that free hosting usually places ads all over your website to make an income and pay for your hosting services. Any free host that does not put ads on your site is taking a loss in profit in my opinion and probably wont stick around very long.

You may want to try freehostia.com they are quite good too. Another would be 110mb.com they seemed to be getting all the good reviews.

As for me, I would choose sitekreator. There's no ads at all, or maybe you can try googlepages.

ej.am and ceege.net are good free hostings but you have to post on their forum first. check the plans at least. I use them both and I am happy for these hosting services.

There are plenty of free hosts that dont put ads on your site but you have to post on their forums. But free hosts usually have reliability problems.

I just signed up with
www.byethost.com (not a misstype) its free, came top in a free web hosting php benchmark, has no ads and requires no posting in forums.
Only downside is the control panel isnt brilliant but its alot better than some ive used in the past.
I dont have any information on reliability but it was rated very well by other users of the service.
