I'm hoping to keep it much smaller than Sedo (700k members ), but have members who are on average much more involved in the domaining community. Being that it's free, I'm being somewhat choosy on who I accept into BQB (if they're not NPers with good TR) and am hoping BQB will be able to significantly reduce non-paying buyers, payment-reversing buyers, and non-delivering sellers which plague many established venues today.
edit: Thanks for the title change and highlight Bill!
Reece - bqb.com altough in its earlytimes it is popular in short domains sales arena.I heard your web site has got membership fee it is good , In np some manegement team and staff is very respective to advertiser givers to np ,they are making double standard ,they save and beside the advertisers, they are giving warning to free members, money is everything in np ,But They dont know my advertisements shown google ads section, They want direct money, because adsense everytime pays. I hope bqb.com is not less quality like some people in np.
I've decided to run BQB 100% free of membership fees or commission permanently for the first 1000 members. We'll see what happens after that. If I could get an advertiser to cover the dedicated server + miscellaneous expenses, might look into making BQB permanently free for everyone, but for now I'm just going to guarantee that the first 1000 can expect zero commission and zero membership fees forever.
Have no interest in implementing commission at any time, but I may need to look into implementing a membership fee (like Afternic does, but without commission) on new signups after the first 1000 to cover my costs which are about $1500/month, not including the time investment. I've been saying there would be a membership fee on new signups post-beta since the start, but I've had quite a bit of advertisers inquire already, including a few large companies surprisingly, so it might be possible to keep this permanently free for everyone
One thing is for sure -- I won't be sacrificing quality of members for any financial gain and would rather have 1000 free, very well respected members anyday over 1000 paying members who I really don't trust.
I downgraded the server recently to a 8 core x 2.66ghz Harpertown setup, upon suggestion that it may actually work faster (2x12MB cache in new setup versus 4x4MB in the old one) because of the difficulty most software currently has in taking advantage of even 8, nevermind 16 cores. Still, it isn't cheap by a longshot (still using RAID 10 with quad SCSI) and there are lots of servers out there which cost less to buy than I'm paying per month to lease this one.
I'd rather just stay on one server permanently than get into load balancing or (gasp!) changing servers if such a time were to come (had I gone with a cheaper option eg. 1 core Celeron). Peak server load so far has been 0.18 -- and that's to be divided by 8, because I have 8 cores in here, so clearly it can handle a whole lot more stress than is currently being placed on it.
How could I not approve an application with such lovely names listed as being owned
Thanks Mike I've submitted my email for DNW and look forward to hearing more!
If you have 15+ iTrader with 100% positive feedback, I'll likely approve you if you send me a pm or post in this thread. Not looking for new Namepros members at the moment nor particularly interested in signups who are only signing up because of incentives some people are offering courtesy of my referral program, however if you're new but really interested in short domains, please send me a detailed pm about your plans and some of the domains you own and we'll see about getting that approved.
Please list domains which are relevant to BQB on the registration page -- we are afterall a marketplace for short domains, so 20 letter domains are hurting your application more than anything else.
I'm paying a total of $5000 out of pocket to the 3 people who refer the most approved domainers between now and when we hit 1000 members, so you can look at it as every signup is currently costing me $5 (eg. I could get a good quality signup from someone who's referring members), so please feel free to apply after the first 1000 if you aren't approved.
Please pm me if you aren't approved within 24 hours and have 15+ iTrader with 100% positive feedback. I won't guarantee approval, but it's likely I overlooked your application (or you neglected to mention your Namepros membership) and will approve it upon being informed.
Current approval rate is under 50% -- if you don't meet the above requirements, you won't be approved unless you get in contact with me -- there's still a very real possiblity you will not be approved. I'll be more lenient down the line on who we accept once additional verification measures are put in place (eg. address verification).
