Sig links are great to boost your backlinks although their aren't great quality as most are PR0 or nofollow, don't get me wrong there are some high PR threads in forums out there, but overall it is great because it is quality and quantity when it comes to backlinks!

I was able to make our directory rank in the major SE's for some relevant keywords in its niche solely by my forum sigs. Traffic and conversion is also good
