Wow , what a heated discussion. Folks should not be that upset if they didn't buy into the innovative new extension named .mobi .
After all there's no mobile web just PC's that dish out websites Right? Wrong!!
I am very thankful that many folks here did not purchase .mobis because it gave me more of a selection of generics to choose from.
I just regged another 15 today.
Do you remember these sayings at all .
I wish I knew that .com would of taken off I would of bought some or bought more.
I should have bought microsoft stock in the 80's.
I can go on and on .I have a few hundred .coms & I love them but have an open mind folks & those of you who trash .mobi remember this saying>
After looking at this list it reminds me of the one main reason ".mobi" clicked for me. Brandability, from a marketing standpoint the .mobi makes a lot of sense.
For those sites, don't people just go to the web address they normally visit on PC via cell phone and it automatically detects and redirects to the mobile version url?
For example: typing in bofa.com and foxnews.com on your cell phone automatically redirects to mobile version.
Essentially, all you have to know is the URL you visit via PC, and the big companies (not all) with mobile web will automatically redirect accordingly as to avoid confusion.
They only thing your feable list shows, is that all these 'various' urls, is just plain stupid and confusing to the average user. Unless of course they'll have you and Labrocca handy 24/7 to check and find the right one!!
Ok, now let's try a new 4 mobi's for you -
Priceline.mobi, Amtrak.mobi, BMW.mobi, StateFarm.mobi
check out BOFA.com on your phone and let us know of the results. then try BOFA.mobi, see if it's any different. Also try ESPN.com and ESPN.mobi on your phone. Also Weather.com and weather.mobi
Hi thebiffenator,
I'm using mTLD emulator to test.
My current phone displays full website.
BOFA.com and BOFA.mobi on mTLD emulator redirects to same site
ESPN.com and ESPN.mobi on mTLD emulator redirects to same site
Weather.com doesn't load on mTLD emulator while weather.mobi does
Stooping to a personal attack now? You can dismiss what I say if you want I don't really care. I will continue stating my opinion and whatever facts I find about mobi. If you don't like my opinion or the facts add me to your ignore.
And you have it wrong about "despise"...I just registered 2 mobi's last week and even starting to develop them. I am a realist. I neither worship nor hate an "extension". It's a domain choice one that I feel for the most part isn't worth very much. I also do not believe those who have heavily invested into the extension will be happy with their portfolio in the coming years. actual topic subject matter
Pity that whenever there is an honest discussion about mobi it normally boils down to personal attacks made on those wishing to discuss the extension. I shouldn't have to be forced to paint a rosy picture to state my opinion without a personal attack on my character.
You have a nice day. I will find another thread to be "alone" in.
I disagree. People still won't know what to type. All .mobi did was add another option (in a way, making the problem worse).
This is where .MOBI really shines:
The TLD has built-in marketing. When you see example.mobi, you know it's a site that works on your mobile. That's what makes it a viable choice for mobile-centric sites.
.MOBI will not be able to replace all others TLDs in the mobile space. That would be like trying to get all informational sites to use .info names. Not going to happen.
Happy now Mike? I knew it was going to come to this again and everyone as usual jumped in boots and all into the same old trap. Since the inception of .mobi this forum has continiously had threads like this. Everyone has complained about it and some have left the forum and threads have been locked and some have been banned yet you managed to start off another flame war. I would have thought that most here would have been wise enough by now to just ignore threads as these and not participate yet it seems the weakness of human nature again prevails. Oh well..ho-hum..yawn.
because RJ's opinion seems reasonable and balanced...its not that people are scared to respond just because he owns the forum, if thats what you're trying to say.
a lot of people seem like they just want to debate anything to have some sort of strong opinion about a topic they really know very little about...its fashionable to take a strong stance on something... but hey thats life, and happens with lots more topics than just domain names.
