The only problem with that is we would either need to have it in a stickied thread which would get huge and difficult to go through, or it would clutter the section that is supposed to be for domains that have already gone to auction. I really think this needs a whole section, maybe creating a subforum like the external auctions, or maybe creating a forum in the Special category. Just my opinion.

I totally agree, a stickied thread would be 50+ pages long in the first couple of weeks and most of the domains would get buried in the melee!

Sounds good.

Plus, why not have different levels of send to auction? A $60 level, a $500 level, a $1000 level. That would help make it more orderly.

That was my exact thinking. You could start your name at a higher thread and if it doesn't get pushed, move it to the lower thread. Also, when markets catch on fire for a particular niche, you could just as easily move it up into a higher price range.

I saw Reece's thread in the short domain section and think it is a great idea. As long as the initial bids are sincere and honored, I don't understand the problem. It seems like a good deal all around, from the seller (who wants a minimum bid to start an auction), to the bidder (who wants the chance to get a great domain for $60) and Sedo (who gets more auction inventory and still gets their commission).

Personally I think there are more than enough cheapy names on Sedo auctions.

If you really think your names can be sold at auction at $60+ then just put them on the auction threads here or on other forums with a $60 (Whatever) min bid/reserve met.

Leave the online brokerage house auctions for more quality names then in time it may encourage more end users to start looking instead of having to sift through the mire.

If you get offers use your negotiatng skills to try to up the price before sending to auction.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/461518-how-about-sticky-thread-send-sedo.html

You only have to look at what has been happening with the recent roadshow auctions, far too many overpriced names and bucketloads of garbage- the results speak for themselves. JMO

I beg to differ.
Sift through the mire???
Why do you think we as a collective society will cheapen the lists of Sedo?
There are alot of members here, with some quality names!

By throwing in another load of $60 names- does not seem like progress to me.

And I do not dispute the quality of many of the names owned by members here, just the thought of a Sed/Afternic dumping ground for the lesser quality.

As you can see a Great idea is coming to life here!

seperate sections,

sub-sections,

different price ranges...so you wouldn't even have to look at the $60.00 domains if you chose not to.

and whether or not it seems like progress to you,
I think that that ACTUAL $60.00 minimum was created by Sedo.
So, I guess they are ok, with that!

I have several $2000+ LLLL.coms that can't get bids on Sedo... I'm sure most people on Sedo are well aware they won't get a CVCV for $60, so they don't even bother making the offer. There's quite a few CVCVs on Sedo which have zero offers on them... Surely these are worthy of at least $60 bids?

What if the seller just wanted the domain to be sent to auction. What if the seller was inspired by a few extraordinary CVCV sales like YUSU @ $3225? Perhaps they'd be willing to chance it on a $60 bid for that shot at greatness... We'll never know as is. I'm not going to waste my time placing $60 offers on people's CVCVs at Sedo. If however someone wants to guarantee me they'll send that CVCV to Sedo @ no reserve if I give them that $60 start... Who could honestly refuse such a proposal?

It's not necessarily junk -- it's just people who want auctions now. We just don't want to wait 6 months until someone places an offer on that CVCV.

Consider someone who's short on cash... You know pretty much any CVCV except the most monstrous attrocities will hit $1000+ at Sedo, so isn't sending a CVCV in example to auction at no reserve a good idea if you're short on cash needed to make a killer deal?

I offloaded one of my LLL.coms cheap recently for just that reason -- I reasoned that the domain I now have in escrow is going to make me a larger profit than what I lost out on by selling my LLL.com cheap. I know I'm not the only person this has ever happened to...

There's plenty of legitimate reasons for wanting a Sedo auction, as illustrated above, as illustrated by other members in this thread previously, and as illustrated by how many members are in support of this idea.

Maybe that was an actual nice comment and I mis-interpreted it?

If not then my comment still stands.
We, over here in the U.S. would only say something like that, sarcastically.
So, If you could clear that up, I might just owe you an apology!

I sincerely hope this idea works and that it is beneficial to the domain business as a whole however I see many potential problems and I will bet there will be an awful lot of forum infighting and Sedo accounts getting blocked for the "I changed my mind set" or whatever the excuses wil turn out to be.

Watch this space- though I truly hope not.

Good luck with the venture, if it works I may even use it myself but I will sit and watch for the moment.

I'm positive things will go wrong - I just hope they don't as it may have far reaching effects on our business.

There are too many unknowns in this idea and the biggest unknown is "people" and with a forum membership of 80K? plus all trying to jump in on what they see is the golden auction goose - a recipe for disaster.

And believe me I am a very forward positive free thinker.

I repeat, I hope it works.

Yep.

I don't know why people keep trying to paint a picture of imminent disaster. Why would you say this would fill Sedo auctions with garbage? How many people here are going to push a domain at $60 if it is worthless? Yes, there are going to be a flood of domains getting posted in the forum section, but that doesn't mean a lot will get pushed, not by a long shot.

I know I'm not going to pay $60 for a reg fee domain. I personally wouldn't bid for someone unless I was getting a really good deal, meaning I think it is worth $400+ in the reseller market.

Are any mods who are voting the idea down going to come in and comment, or are we spinning our wheels here?
