It is simple and clean type of search engine. The Web2.0 logo is absolutely awesome, the favicon is awesome as well.

Very easy navigation, bright idea, wish you success with this one.

A1 work. :tu:

nice and simple. Like the use of bright colors on the gray makes them pop. I am not too keen on the name but that is another subject. Nice work on the design though.

What is it? What does Bodzo.com stand for, represent and do for me - the common user that has no idea why a simple search is not producing results.
If you added a tag line that summarizes your services, your purpose and functionality, you'd gain the ability to position your project. Right now it's a guessing game when someone arrives at the front page.
Logo and favicon look great.

I would agree with that - for the quick browsers and ppl that aren't so web savvy ...

Thank you for the tip Mike. What sort of tag line would you recommend? Something that mentions its a new system looking for sites? Or something different? :)

Let us take this step by step.

When a user visits your site, he is either a Webmaster or an Internet Enduser. Actually if he is a Webmaster, there is nothing in the page that says "Add your link" or "Add your URL". I mean the word "Advertise" will not be clicked probably, as they think its paid advertising.

What I want to say is that you might need to add it clear "Add your Site".

(I have just seen your site again, and it seems you updated that and put the add your site just above search form congrats ;))

For end users, you need to add a caption for the search form. What they are searching for? Sites? the Web? ~ your own search engine?.

Add some little information to the end user who does not know what your site is for. ;)

Hope you get my point. Thx

Nice clean design, but I agree with the above posts. As a web guy I can figure out what your site is about but for the non initiated they might not get the concept.

I improved the home page. Let me know what you think. :tu:

It is much better now, explaining itself a lot better than before really. Only one thing caught my attention this time though, the tracker "Bodzo has a total of 131 websites using 97 tags." should not be placed beside copyright. I mean its unusual to see some stats in this area of a website, I'd think of placing it in the header, or in large font just ahead of search form.

Congrats

Thanks a lot guys. ;)

Let me list some of my future ideas for Bodzo. I wanted to implement these right away but I needed to start small and build my way up as this isn't my full time job and I only do it when I can in my spare time.

Verification System
This is almost finished except for a few kinks I need to sort out. Basically this allows website administrators to update their site in the future by way of a file verification system. This either means the website administrator uploads a specific file to their site or adds a line of code somewhere in an existing page for Bodzo to scan and verify, both of which contain title and description.

A lot of you maybe thinking, "huh why not just a user registration system? all that seems too much hassle!", but let me give you my reasons for doing this.

1. Helps battle against spammers. Let's say some idiot was to add a website they didn't own to the system and it contained an invalid title and description. By using my verification system the REAL website owner/administrator can fix this on their own.
2. New website ownership. In the future if a website that is in the Bodzo system gets sold the new owner can easily update the title and description. If I used a user registration system there would be the hassle of having the website transferred between accounts.

Keywords
In the future all websites will have a main tag and keywords. The main tag is what may randomly appear on the Bodzo home page and is one word that is best used to identify each site. Keywords are more related to the search terms end users may use when searching for products/services. Existing websites don't have to worry because my verification system means this can be updated in future.

Statistics
Publically available statistics relating to every website. At the moment Bodzo informs users how many points a website has but the new statistics page will show stats like the most common keywords, geographical region etc.

Simple crawler + manual page submission
I will implement a crawler like I mentioned above, which will only scan specific links to start out with. The manual page submission allows users to add pages for an existing website on the Bodzo system. This means end users can do a search relating to a specific website. I will need to limit the amount of pages per day to begin with to prevent abuse.

Classified ads
A whole new section of Bodzo in the distant future (classified.bodzo.com). End users will be able to sell their games, household furniture, clothes etc. Will work in a similar way to existing classified ads websites but will maintain the same look and feel of the existing Bodzo website. This will help build up my user base.

:)

It's a nice site and I like your ideas - BUT three things that irritate me:
  • "Advertise" sounds like paid advertisement, "Submit Your Site" or something similar would be better.
  • Not enough characters are allowed in the title field. I could not quite fit the name of my blog in.
  • Why are subdomains not allowed? I couldn't submit my blog at all!

DomainManDave 04-27-2008 11:51 AM

You asked I listened. Here are the most recent changes.
  • "Advertise" has been changed to "Submit your website for FREE"
  • Brand spanking new file verification system
  • Keywords! For those who have already submitted their website you can still update it using the file verification system :)

Read about the file verification system.

Update your own website today.

Some more surprises for you guys tomorrow. We may see the first signs of my crawler and also a manual page submission system. :hehe:
