The simplicity is a good draw and visually appealing. I didn't see too much, if any, empty space. What you should fix immediately though, is the backdrop once a selection has been made. If the user clicks on any item such as photography, video, etc. the text is really impossible to read since the backdrop is still too massive.
The red duck from the home page should be used as favicon as well.
Also, bring images into your content AND edit your content! In the grand scheme of things, other than your site being a personal blog, your references, wording, statements and representation of yourself is a major turn off.
That's not exactly the best way to make an impression. Don't forget your site is indexed, can and will be used by others - eventually employers or clients who know how to do their homework BEFORE they extend an offer to you.
the graphic on the splash page needs to be smoothed out. i like the simplistic tag idea with mouseovers etc, but you should change the framed page that shows up for the subpages.
