Making Flash videos?
 

Hi all. I've been having trouble converting videos to Flash format (.flv) in order to embed them in my site (they won't play.... I just get a gray box).

Am I supposed to be using .swf? (my video converters won't output to SWF, and most will only support certain resolutions for FLV, and in terrible quality, no matter what I do)

Is there some program that assists the process, or a certain way to embed FLV movies using Expression Web (aka Front Page... probably a more decent title [wipes barf off monitor]) or Dreamweaver?

Thanks all... What I realized was that FLV wasn't what I needed; it was SWF. I'm suddenly not sure what FLV is actually used for.

...and with that in mind, I found that Flash Video Studio (http://www.flashvideostudio.com/) is what I was looking for. I can hardly believe how good this app is (I've gone through more video converters than I can count on all my fingers): it reliable, doesn't have annoying size/ratio/etc limitations (like most the other FLV converters I tried - might have something to do with the fact that it uses SWF though, not FLV) and even has a small library of player skins that you can edit.

The only drawback (with Flash though, not the program) is that you're limited to 16,000 frame movies (in SWF format, not FLV though), and my movie, quite naturally, is longer than that.

SO... anyone know of any good QuickTime converters? I want something that will play nicely in a browser, with a nice-looking player, but I'm talking about 40 minutes of footage here: not something SWF files can support. (16,000 frames??? How did Stage6 do it?)

ImTOO FLV Converter Is a good idea. ImTOO stuff is usualy pretty sound. Allthought it will cost. Im sure a simple google search will yeild you with a free one.

So, as I understand it, you should be using an SWF file (the player) to control and play the FLV files (the videos)?

That's the impression I get when Flash Video Studio spits out both of those files... When you run the SWF file (the player), it loads and plays the FLV file.

Am I on the right page? If so, would I use ImTOO FLV Converter to create FLV's for loading in my SWF player?

That is pretty much it. If you are using flash and you import your video in any format then publish it you should have four files total after publish.

you should have a

• .html file with the correct embed code that you'll copy and paste in the correct spot in your html page.

• .swf file that is the player controls

• .swf file that references the video

• .flv that is the actual compressed flash video file

All of those will need to be in your directory to play right. But when you embed the stuff you are acutally embedding the .sfw. This how it is done basically using flash cs3.
