.com
.net
.org
Then it gets a little more controversial. .de, .co.uk, .us and .jp come here somewhere, but sticking to the general TLDs and the pseudo-general TLDs:
.mobi
.info
.tv
.biz
.cc
.la (my predjudice)
.name

Also consider strong country extension such as .co.uk , .de , .tv etc...

As mentioned, there are many many threads on this subect here on #1 Namepros!

Many of those new and newer to domains, such as yourself, rely simply on what is being "reported as sold" / "domains du jour" ... BUT it is both sales -and- resulting developments and promotions (and traffic and sales and advertising revenue and ancillary monetizations, and even future resales) that comprise stronger components of value, in my judgement.

Just my two sense.

putting mobi at the very very bottom still doesnt make sense.... that is more negative hype.

that would mean its below .name and others that have not seen comparable prices.. ive only had 2 end user sales for .mobi (they contacted me), but i bet thats more than i would have had with a portfolio full of .name's

It's important ... but creative developments and promotions CAN overcome a typically lower-rated extension, IMHO. For instance, I go to Whois.sc every single day (even now that their name has changed to a .COM) ... and along with .MOBI and .NAME, I would generally put .SC down at the bottom generally speaking IMHO. Time will tell which will be at the very bottom, naturally!

This is a VERY BROAD subject matter ... perhaps best answered in its totality of opinions thoughout the history of threads on the site, in my view.
Hope that clarifies a bit.
-Jeff

I agree with you. the only part of the .mobi debate that makes me reconsider is the fact that some large corporations have started using .mobi though. With mod-rewrite a site can detect a handset and there is no need for a .mobi imho.

^ Hammer. Head. Nail.

The FACT remains ... period ... the "dot Mobey" is entirely unnecessary!
Under the guise of a so-called "trustmark" and promise of a developed "ecosystem" (first via the abandoned RFP process, now the possibility of actually not enforcing the firm mTLD mandate of premium developments within 6-months!), a very VERY select few with the most to gain have indeed gained ... but at the expense of others while the QUESTIONS (and, consequently, those questioning themselves for their investments and ongoing costs of renewals) CONTINUE ...

I know of no pure GENERIC .MOBI's owned by large corporations that are developed as unique and compelling, stand-alone "on the go" websites ... and that are also being promoted to the masses by those corporations, IMHO.

Thanks for the post (and please feel free to continue to discuss it more in depth in the #1 Namepros .MOBI Forum™ for consistency, as well)!
Have a great evening.
-Jeff

Don't be so dramatic ... the sky is still blue ... however there is an ominous and darkening CLOUD on the horizon for the "dot Mobey", IMHO. This directly goes to its aforementioned long-term value ... and I - and there are others - am worried for those sooo heavily invested (in both financial and time / emotional terms) in it, humbly.

Best of Luck.

I knew we'd one day agree ... sadly, it was potentially preventable had more folks espoused a fair balance to the constant barrage of "dot Mobey" HYPE that we were getting (here and elsewhere) from a FEW core of .MOBI early investors and insiders, IMHO.

Time will tell, but I am very uneasy about the forthcoming .MOBI Fallout, IMHO.

Goodnight for now, friend.

but the thing is.. fair balance doesnt come from negative hype + postive hype... they dont cancel each other out, its just confusing for people and adds to the mess.

fair balance comes from real dedicated research and fully emersing yourself within a topic and being interested in it.... shortcuts almost never work, taking things at face value (like just reading opinions on a forum) is a mistake in any situation, domains and mobi included.

I have decided that I will begin an earnest crusade to help prevent people from wasting their money investing in .ck domains. .CK is obviously the greatest danger of our time for the new domainer.

Folks - SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Avoid the insidious .ck hype!

.CK is only the Cook Islands - it does not mean click as the greedy promotors are saying. There are no clicks on .ck domains!!!

Pump and Dump = NO CLICKS!@!!
There can be no ecosystem on .ck - only Coconuts!
Avoid .ck or the Grinch will get you!
.CK = NO CLICKS!

Whew. It is not every day you have to save the world.
