Develop or not develop?

I'm not clear why a developed site would be more valuable. Seems to me a new 'owner' would want his or her own content. any thoughts on this?

Presumably a developed site has traffic to go with it and possibly backlinks from a variety of sources. That would be a big step in the right direction unless you plan to completely change the theme of the site.

yes with content sites are listed better on search engines, and higher up the rankings means more traffic.

New member question

What does are the criteria a domain buyer considers when acquiring a domain name? Besides being developed ofcourse.

I've heard traffic, backlinks, domain age, PR and so on...

If you're a domain buyer, how would you rank these things based on importance to you?

when a site gets indexed as a "real" site google starts a little clock giving the site some credit for being "on-the-air". the longer the better.

I have a domain that I'm in the process of Developing. It used to be an actual business I once owned. Since I sold in November 2005 it has been parked. And starting in the next couple of weeks it will be all original content. Will google give me credit for the time it was a 'real' site?

taking it off-line and parking it I believe has set it back to zero...

Traffic is the most important factor
When we have a domain with nice traffic (it was developed, etc), you can try to park it and see how things work

I would not say the domain will go back to "zero" just because the content changes, but if there are links to certain pages that are lost, then those links will go away after a while. You have to realize that sites are rank based on many different things and not just content.

But if you used to have a site, then parked the domain, and then had a site again, I don't think you will have much benefit from the old site, except for the length of time the domain has had content on it, and any links that were gained to the old site, as long as they persist.

This is going to vary depending on the buyer. For an investor that is focused more on the name and someday selling it, I would rank them as age, backlinks, traffic.

For a domainer that is more focused on parking income, it would be traffic, and then backlinks/PR that will indicate the traffic will continue.

You'd be surprised. Some people hire hacks to write any old thing for their sites, just to get something up there
