Awesome sale! I'm guessing the seller wanted 10M but the buyer haggled away $50.

"can you at least leave me $50 pretty pretty please?"

BigSotong.com is an unknown quantity at this point

how true is it? Can they played up the figure. I doubt a 10,000,000 sales for a domain name. How much do you think that such domain name can bring in new business? How long to break-even?

I think it is an extraordinary overpayment. I would think they could have had pretty close to any domain they want for that money, and frankly fund.com is along way down the tree.

$0 - NP$

You'd be very lucky to recoup your regfee. Short domains subforum has some speculative investments that might pan out. I'd recommend placing your speculative dollars there rather then in such names.

Not in the buyers opinion, and they are the ones who count.

Nice sale. Is it the largest all-cash domain sale ever? If so, I hope it gets some play with the media.

How did we arrive at the $10 million purchase price for an Internet domain name?

The Internet has proven itself. The Internet connects millions of buyers and sellers everyday doing billions of dollars of business and in doing so billions of online advertising dollars and lead dollars are exchanged. The search engine Google is a prime example with $16 billion in advertising revenue. The Internet is also ideally suited to our business. Our easy to find and easy to remember address creates top-of-mind awareness for potentially tens of millions of customers. $10 million is relatively inexpensive when compared to the much greater cost of creating awareness for an upstart brand name or unknown website domain.
Cool answer.

On a side note : I've just cleaned up this thread because of a few Immature members arguing and calling each other names ... It's much easier for me to just Delete members and prune their existence from this site than it is to delete posts one by one like this. I'll take the shorter route from now on - Stop ruining the forum for all other members over your childish behaviour. ~ Mark

Something strange about this sale announcement.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=443296

The domain name "clekmedia" was registered March 11, 2008 and is a general website.

The domain name "clekmediainc.com" was registered March 12, 2008 and is for sale.

There are no TM listings for clek, clekmedia, or clekmediainc. at the USPTO site.

The fund.com site was a generic website (archive.org) which was an amazon book reseller. It averaged about 750 visitors a day according to domain tools info.

It seems strange that a company that basically didn't exist before March 11th announced their first sale as a 10 million dollar sale.

Maybe some of you are more knowledgeable, or I am too cynical, but looks a little odd to me.

Edit.....The article says that Fund.com is the buyer of the domain. Archive.org shows that fund.com had a TM for Fund.com back in 2004.

According to SEC filings, Fund.com issued 20 million dollars worth of shares recently.

They spent 10 million of that buying the domain name??

From themselves??

According to Yahoo Finance, this company was a 10 cent stock in January. It rose to 5.00 on almost no volume and no news........hmmm. Their financial sheets show they are bleeding money.

They hired a PR firm called MLK just recently. The article said that ClekMedia represented the domain seller. Does the domain seller usually issue the press release?

What am I missing here??
