I think self-managed DNS is definately cool. I got some hosting set up today, (my account was just set up at 2PM ish), and I updated the nameservers (at xname.org (self-managed dns), not at godaddy.com (the registrar)...), and it was up and running in a matter of an hour (due to them refreshing zones like 1 time per hour or so)...
Pretty sweet!!!
