![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thank you ToastyX. I have had a rough idea about names resolving to ip address but your explanation sure cleared things up for me. I have had .com 'resolve' in under an hour. I find it is common for info, us, biz and lately .in/.co.in to be accessable in minutes. I change nameservers, log in to Cpanel, create account, upload and access by domain (usually under 30 minutes) to be the norm except com but even that is improving. |

![]() ![]() | About 12 hours for me. But that only happened once. The norm is at least 40 hours for me and I had one go over 72 hours. This is all mostly GD.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/4329-whats-quickest-domain-name-has-propagated.html That's really fast. Ubelievable. | ||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Guys, just to keep things as simple as can be, there are at least 2 things to consider regarding propagation: 1. How soon your registrar or reseller submits changes (especially DNS) to the Registry of the extension in question. Some do it in real time while others do so in batches. Once the Registry receives the changes from the registrar or reseller, they'll send it to the 13 root servers that make up the backbone of the 'net. Most registries do so a few minutes after. 2. How soon your local ISP queries the root servers and updates their DNS cache to reflect any change made. This is the main reason why registrars gave the 24-72 hour propagation time prior to Sept. 8: it's to ensure ISPs around the world are given enough time to refresh. The registrar doesn't really have any control as to how soon your domain will resolve to your site except to submit any DNS change made with them. One exception to this, though, is if the registrar is also hosting your site. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=4329 But just because propagation is faster now doesn't mean we should expect this to keep happening all the time. Always be prepared.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yea, ever since I used namecheap, all my domains propogate fast, almost instantly. With other registrars, it takes almost a day, or at least until the next afternoon, after I go to sleep and wake up. |

![]() | .co.uk I registered a .co.uk with 123reg then changed nameservers, went to hostroute and set up the domain account, it resolved right there and then. So a matter of minutes. It's not always like that though but pretty close, I may have timed it just right. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For me, with NameCheap, it was 2 mins.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yea ... Dont know how it is working but, in Namecheap so far it was the fastest way to become live. I changed DNS to Sedo parking after I regged in Namecheap and after 5 minutes it goes to Sedo homepage. So...is it fast or what?! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Interesting old thread, nowadays, the propagation for .com at godaddy is almost instant.

![]() ![]() | typically with godaddy after getting a new domain and setting the DNS it seem to take 5-10min if i do a ipconfig /flushdns and the page is up and running. very quick

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Believe it or not, my friend and I just clocked his domain's DNS propagation to just 20 seconds flat just a while ago! Record breaker for me, so far. But he was just lucky, of course. It didn't happen for another domain. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Back when this was a major issue I used to set my Refresh/TTL's to 5 minutes before making any changes to a zone. This was mainly because the default was 2-5 days or something ridiculous like that. I guess if you set your max ttl to 1 second your dns changes would update in one second. Most registrars seem to have a a refresh/ttl that should get your information updated in 2 hours max. Of course if you update 119 minutes 59 seconds after the last refresh then you'll see the effects in 1 second. I've had problems with some servers ignoring these values. The biggest culprit is my own proxy server, but the reduction in queries saves me a lot of traffic. It's usually not a problem, but there's nothing you can do if someone along the way caches this information for you unless you have an alternative route. |

![]() | A few times at namecheap I've regged a new name and gone straight to my hosting account, addon the domain and you can access it within minutes. Last time I regged 2 and one was up straight away the other took another few hours. Its a lot faster than a couple years ago when it usually took 3 or 4 days. |
