????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/432090-i-saw-commercial-last-night-concerned.html

they say "we dont need .mobi because browsers that allow you to access full web pages exist"

if a person feels that way, that should not be the argument.... it should be "we dont need ANYTHING optimized for the mobile web because its possible to access the full sized page."

the issue of the .mobi TLD itself is totally separate... arguing that .mobi is obsolete because its made-for-small-screen is a bad argument.. that carries with it the notion that all websites made for a small screen are now obsolete whether they are on .com, .net .whatever (and yes the iphone has a small screen)

..and this is clearly not the trend.

sorry all but this is nicely said, and two very good points most always overlooked.

Oh gosh, I said I was bowing out of the debate on my own, well debated already, views on here. But I hope you don't mind if I just ask a few responses to clarify what the responses after mean ? I'm confused by some of them that's all.

Quote:
net and .org are still around, despite their original purposes being a distant memory by now. I really don't think this is going to be any different. .Mobi is here to stay regardless of what the technology does.
Yes, I also am hoping so. I got some really nice LLL's and a lot of nice keyword rich (mobile related) .mobi's. So, yes, I'm optimistic about that !!!

Quote:
you need to be able to access all the full sized web pages AND when people get over the "wow factor" that you can actually access the web on a mobile device, there is going to be mobile innovation.... websites SUITED for the small screen.zooming and scrolling from side to side - reminds me of most of the cheesy clip-art websites of the 90's.

i know from personal experience as well... i have an iphone.
Well, you either need to set your i-phone settings as 'fit to page' while browsing. Or download a free java mobile internet browser. No zooming or side to side scrolling required. Honestly. It's not a mysticical thing this 'no side scrolling or having to zoom'. All the mobile browsers do it. Or read the first post I did on this thread quoting the mom's on their i-phones and nokia's. They were reading and viewing a forum just like this one, shoutbox, profiles, avatars and all.

Have you tried doing or downloading any of the above ?

Well, I'm not quite sure at all by this post but on first glance it seems totally contradictory. "we dont need ANYTHING optimized for the mobile web because its possible to access the full sized page".

I kind of hate these argument threads, but here we go.....

Any other extention is worthless to .com (period) A dot com can do anything a .us, .asia, .cn, .tv and .mobi can do!

Argument over!

Question though, what advantage does a .org have over .info, or what advantage does a .mobi have over a .info or what advantage does a .com have over all the rest! .Com is King and we all know that..... They are only extentions.....some serve countries, some serve the world...... and some serve mobile phones......

To tell you the truth, I find .TV useless along with some CC's (only because a .com can do that also), but I still have them and never argue against it.

Whats happening now is different channels (almost like present cable....if you want to watch animals, go to the animal planet channel, if you want to see sports, then go to ESPN, if you want to shopping, then go to QVC)

My point is that, the future is here, and the internet has different channels now for people! Is that so bad or wrong? (It's technology and pioneering!!!)
