Converting AVI to GIF

I need help converting an avi video to gif. I have a 39 second video clip (which can be cut down). Does anyone recomend a certain program? I would prefer a free program, but one that does not have a huge watermark.

I'm not sure it can be done, a GIF is a graphic whereas an AVI is a video/audio file.

Only thing that comes to mind is taking still shots of the AVI & compile a GIF frame by frame. You can do this in Flash & add the audio.

This is just a suggestion - I'm sure there's probably a better way to do this. I just haven't had the need to convert an AVI to GIF before

I can have a look into this. What you want is an animated gif file. A possible problem that might occur is a big file size. Animated gif files are good if there is a stable background and a relatively small area that is changing. If the whole picture is changing continuously the gif file will be huge.

You might also consider converting the avi into a flash movie. 98% of computers connected to the İnternet have a flash player installed.

You can auto stop the movie in flash but an animated gif will play forever. It would help if you tell why you want especially an animated gif file.

Upload the avi file somewhere and give me the link to download. Bye.

There are literally hundreds of programs that will do that for you... Some are free... some you will have to pay for.

Do you have macromedia flash? I don't remember exactly but I think that you can import avi video in flash and then export it as a gif. But I do not think that the quality will be that good.
